Geraldine "Jerry" Engel, 82, McLeansboro, passed away 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro. Mrs. Engel was a beautician. She was born April 28, 1927, in Dahlgren, daughter of Herman and Nancy (Sneed) Marsh. She was raised as the daughter of Vern and Nancy (Sneed) Auxier. She married John Engel on April 28, 1951, at St. Clement's Catholic Church, McLeansboro; he survives. Her funeral was Tuesday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro; Monsignor Joseph Lawler and the Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was at St. Clement's Catholic Cemetery, McLeansboro. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Jetta Karcher of McLeansboro; grandsons Ryan Karcher and wife Lorna of Fairview Heights and Jeffrey Karcher and wife Nicole of McLeansboro; granddaughter Juliana Karcher of McLeansboro; and great-grandchildren Elayna, Layton and Kaelee Karcher. Mrs. Engel attended St. Clement's Catholic Church, McLeansboro. Her activities included caring for members of the community, volunteering for a number of groups - including Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxilliary, McLeansboro Women's Club and Crisis Closet - and just any other time she could help anyone. She was preceded in death by her parents; two stepfathers, Vern Auxier and Bill Widick; and son-in-law Rod Karcher. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, was in charge of all arrangements.
