H. Lee Heard, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and formerly of Dahlgren, Illinois passed away at 9:40 P.M. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Heard was born on Saturday, March 15, 1924 in Hamilton County, Illinois the son of the late Charlie and Mamie (Seng) Heard. He married D'Etta Cox on November 8, 1947 in Morganfield, Kentucky. Surviving family members include his Wife of 62 years: D'Etta Heard of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 Daughters: Aleea Brewer and husband Carl of Port Orford, Oregon and Kela Campbell and husband Ron of Atlanta, Georgia; 2 Grandsons: Lt. Joseph Lee Campbell, U.S.N. and wife Melanie of Bremerton, Washington and Robert J. Campbell and wife Claire of Alpharetta, Georgia; 2 Great Grandchildren: Anna and Hayden Campbell of Bremerton, Washington. His parents, one infant son: Samuel Lee and one brother: Evan Heard preceded him in death. Lee served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a molder for Autolite Corporation and later was an over-the-road truck driver for Spector Freight System, Inc. and was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Mike Speidel will officiate. INTERMENT: Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. EVENING VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. MORNING VISITATION: will be held from 9:00 A.M. till Service Time at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
