H. Lee Heard, 85, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Dahlgren, pass-ed away 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born in Hamilton County on Saturday, March 15, 1924, a son of Charlie and Mamie (Seng) Heard. He married D'Etta Cox on Nov. 8, 1947, in Morganfield, Ky. Funeral services were Saturday at East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon; the Rev. Mike Speidel officiated. Interment followed at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn; members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 conducted full military honors at the cemetery. H. Lee Heard is survived by his wife of 62 years, D'Etta Heard of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Aleea Brewer and husband Carl of Port Orford, Ore., and Kela Campbell and husband Ron of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Lt. Joseph Lee Campbell, U.S.N., and wife Melanie of Bremerton, Wash., and Robert J. Campbell and wife Claire of Alpharetta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Hayden Campbell of Bremerton, Wash. Mr. Heard served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a molder for Autolite Corp. and later was an over-the-road truck driver for Spector Freight System Inc. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant son, Samuel Lee; and one brother, Evan Heard.
