Reverend Garlin L. Burris, 74, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:44 P.M. on Monday, November 21, 2011 at St. Mary Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Burris was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1937 in Buffalo Heart, Illinois the son of the late Jessie and Opal (Erwin) Burris. He married Dorothy Patterson on August 19, 1956 in Belle Rive, Illinois. Surviving family members include his wife: Dorothy Burris of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 6 sons: Ernest Burris and wife Cathy of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Michael Burris and wife Tina of Dahlgren, Illinois, Jeffery Burris and wife Deloris of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Kevin Burris of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Albert Burris and wife Victoria of McLeansboro, Illinois and Brian Burris of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughter: Valerie Patterson and husband Roger of Bluford, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Noilla Burris and wife Kathlene of Opdyke, Illinois; sister: Elaine Cornwell of Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one grandson: Matt Buris and one sister Carolene Kennedy, preceded him in death Rev. Buris was a member and former pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Mt Vernon, Illinois. He worked as a farmer and pastor. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Southside Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Gary Davenport will officiate. INTERMENT: Middle Creek Cemetery in Hamilton County, Illinois.
