    3. McLEANSBORO - Mr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Irvin of McLeansboro observed their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011. Originally from Beckley, W.Va., Vera (Operchuck) met Joe Irvin in 1946 in Washington, D.C. while both were employed by the FBI. They were married the day before Thanksgiving in Detroit, Mich., shortly after being transferred to that city by the bureau. The Irvins are parents to five children: Marilyn Holt of Abilene, Kan., Cathy Black of McLeansboro, Teresa Roy of Evansville, Ind., David Irvin of Sammamish, Wash., and Joel Irvin of Farmington, N.M. The couple has 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A retired Hamilton County farmer, Mr. Irvin was also employed by the Illinois State Police until 1976. Vera Irvin retired in 1993 from the Hamilton County Extension office, where she had worked for more than 20 years.
