Mon Dec 05, 2011, 09:00 AM CST Samuel K. Read, 80, of McLeansboro, passed away 1:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Shelby County, the son of George Washington and Iva (Voyles) Read. He married Judy Phillips and she survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife; sons, Kenneth Read of Marysville, Wash. and Andrew Read of Suffolk, Va.; daughters, Evelyn Read of Marysville, Wash., Angela Britton of Seattle, Wash., Deborah Russel of Seattle, Wash., Christina Welton of Shelbyville, Michelle South of McLeansboro, and Marla Heiman of Cowden; brother, Silas Read; and sister, Loraine; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery in Macedonia. Graveside military rites will be by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and until service time on Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.Mon Dec 05, 2011, 09:00 AM CST
