Listmates - Not a roll call question...but if I don't ask it now, I will forget about it. I am related by marriage to two children of James and Rhoda (BOSTER) SMITH of Northern Twp, FCI...James was born in VA in 1802...and Rhoda in 1803 (VA). Two of their children married into my primary lines George Washington SMITH married a GIBBS and Sarah Emeline SMITH married a RICHARDSON. The child this inquiry focuses on is their 4th child, Tillman C. SMITH (b. 1834 in VA). My question is...for those of you in this bloodline... where does the given name "Tillman" come from? Is it connected to ancestors or cousins of James or Rhoda? Since James and Rhoda were married in Botetourt County, VA (1824) and my TILLMAN line resided in Botetourt County during the latter half of the 18th century, I have to ask the question if Tillman was given his name because of a blood link...or other reason. My ggg grandmother, Sarah (TILLMAN) GIBBS, wife of David GIBBS, was born in Botetourt County...and several on this list are descended from Sarah and David ....figured it was a good place to ask the question! Thanks. - Tom Wilson
