11-8-2001 Tonight I had the most incredible thing happen to me and I had to write it down to share with fellow genealogy researchers. For two years I have been a member of a book club that meets once a month. Tonight we met at a church in town so we could ride together to another members house. I was in a car with four other members and in our conversation one of the women in the back seat mentioned the unusual surname, Maulding. I couldn't believe what I had heard and I turned and told her my maiden name was Maulding. We were both very surprised and she said her maiden name was Maulding also. I told her Ambrose Maulding of Hamilton County, Illinois was my fourth great grandfather and she said he was her great grandfather too but she didn't know which. I wrote down her information and when I got home I found that she is a 3rd great granddaughter of Ambrose and she is my one-half 4th cousin once removed. She descends from Ambrose Maulding and his 2nd wife, Mary Purdy and I descend from Ambrose and his first wife, Peggy Westley. The strangest thing about this is that she and I are both transplants to West Virginia. She grew up in Springfield, Illinois and lived in Virginia for many years and has been here for about 3 years. I lived in Michigan for 43 years and moved to West Virginia 7 years ago. Phyllis Maulding Campbell
