List Folks, Is there such a thing as a census for IL for the year 1825? For Hamilton County? I'm looking for some evidence of Ira MUNSELL (MONCEL, MANCELL, MUNCIL, etc) in Hamilton Co IL somewhere around 1824-1829. I can place him there by 1830 through land and voting records. He has three sons born in hte 1824-1829 period who report they were born in Illinois. Before IL, Ira was in Genesee Co NY (Middlebury) where he bought land (on credit) from The Holland Land Company. I heard about an 1825 census, but don't know if there is such a thing or if someone was wishing there were such a thing. Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to find the place of birth of these sons or any other evidence of Ira's presence in IL during that time? None of the records of the sons (such as death records, tombstone, or any other record known to us) gives any indication of the exact place of birth in IL. We are trying to situate Ira between the time he left NY (probably 1824/5) and the time he is established in Hamilton Co (1830). Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks to a great group of genealogical helpers! I have not seen an 1825 census. There is an 1855 Agricultural Census for Illinois (I don't have a copy) and an 1862 Militia Census (I have a copy). Bye the way, Cordah, I ran across an item in "Goshen Trails" about the wife of Samuel Munsell (I believe she was a Carr) traveling alone from Texas back to Illinois after the death of her husband. Do you have a copy ? Cordah Elizabeth Robinson wrote: > > List Folks, > > Is there such a thing as a census for IL for the year 1825? For Hamilton > County?
