    3. My memory was off just a touch on when he was in Galatia (wrong war), so I thought I would also send to the list.... Best Regards, Trev "Galatia, IL., 1836-1976 - One Hundred-Forty Years of History" Reprinted by the S.C.G.S., with permission of Mrs. Leona Irvin, June 1986 Dr. Dawes commenced the practice of medicine at Galatia on his return from the Mexican War, at about the time our county was organized (1847) and continued in the practice there until rebellion when he again enlisted in defense of the flag. After returning from the war he practiced his profession at Paducah, KY. When he returned to IL, he purchased a farm in Hamilton County where now stands the Village of Broughton. The Doctor owned the land whereon the Village stands. He continued to practice medicine until declining health compelled him to give it up. He has been dead some fifteen years. He was a good physician, a patriotic and enterprising citizen and had a host of friends.
