    3. I hear that...where are we all..been slow today...But I am here to the rescue with a real puzzle or two. I have a couple of interesting mystery "guests" in my family line. All were related to the GIBSON family of Hamilton Co,IL, during the 1800s. Marthey BECK (I believe this to be Martha BECK married to William BECK...but which William BECK? I have William BECK and Martha (GIBSON)BECK inHamilton Co as early as 1850s based on land records...she being Martha GIBSON d/o of Robert and Sarah GIBSON). There is a military pension application card showing a Martha E. BECK filed for the pension of William BECK (Co. K 6 IL Cav) in 1877. There are a William and Martha BECK family shown in the transcription of the 1860 Census for Hamilton Co...showing him to be b.KY and 65 at the time and Martha 47 with three children in the household: Sarah A. age 15,Smiley E. age 13 and a son, James D. age 11. One of the problems here shows she and the children to have been born in IN...this would be incorrect for my Martha (GIBSON)BECK... However, I know that this maybe a mistake in transcription...the script T of TN being taken as an I...reason I know this...the same transcription shows Amos Gipson (GIBSON) as also being born in IN...and he was born in TN...as other census records show. And the fact that there are a number of questionable transcriptions on the 1860 census I have seen..on THE YESTERDAYS IN HAMILTON COUNTY ILLINOIS site...this I believe is because of the old script handwriting and not the fault of the transcriber...sometimes your eyes will cross just trying to read some of the census records. So I believe this William BECK and Martha on the 1860 to be William BECK and Martha GIBSON BECK. Problem...is Martha of 1860 the Martha E. of the 1877 pension application ? Problem..this would mean that William was at least 66 when he entered the military service during the Civil War... as a pvt...hmmmm...I wonder! It clearly states Martha E. as widow...not mother. Then there is the marriage of William Beck and Margaret Evelet...09 Apr 1843 ...who was Margaret EVELET ? Is this a transcription error or was William Beck married more than once? Or, is this actually Martha (Margaret) Gibson who was married prior to William BECK? Is this the Martha E. of the pension record? Here is a possible clue....there were 18 years difference between the William BECK and Martha of the 1860 Census...and the youngest child shown was 11 while Martha was 47...making her 36 at this child's birth...the oldest 15 making her 32 at this ones birth...what was Martha doing before she was 32...had other children already left the household? I do not find William BECK in the 1850 Census. Based on deduction and analysis of the 1840 Census..Martha GIBSON was still in her parents household (Robert and Sarah Gibson). Martha was b. abt. 1813. Another source shows WIlliam "L" BECK married to a Martha ? 9 Apr 1843 (same date as the Margaret EVERLET transcription on TYIHCI)..I have also seen WIlliam "T" BECK listed with these same facts...though there is also a grandson of William L BECK b. 1879 I think .. listed on a site....I believe this to be MARTHA GIBSON married to this William BECK ...since it also shows his birth abt. 1795..which is consistent with the age 65 on the 1860 Census. So, how many William BECKs were there in Hamilton Co. between 1795 and 1877 ? And more importantly is the 65 year old William BECK in the 1860 Census the William Beck, pvt. Co K 6 ILL CAV, during the Civil War in the mid 1860s? Help, I need to connect my Martha GIBSON to a William BECK...I have probate land records showing the were married at least by 1853. NEXT MYSTERY GUESTS PLEASE !!: All these women [Mary DERHAM Louisa McQUEY(Macquay) Mary GIBSON ] are related to the GIBSON clan of Hamilton County in the 1800s....how ??? The Derham is probably phonetic DURHAM and the McQuey could be anything from McKay to McGhee..any ideas..I am stumped. All show up on a common and obscure piece of paper with, you guessed it, Marthey BECK,Amos GIBSON,Benjamin GIBSON,Fanny FITZGERALD, Daniel GIBSON, Sarah GIBSON,Martha GIBSON..all of whom are siblings...except why is there a Marthey BECK and Martha GIBSON showing up together?? This should give us some "flies in the ointment" to work on...<grin> Barb in Savannah,GA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Sink" <elvis5@midwest.net> To: <ILHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2001 7:23 PM Subject: [ILHAMILT-L] WHERE ARE WE ALL ?? : : Is everyone busy doing other things, than genealogy?
