Vicky: I have a William FRITZ JEAREL listed as buyer of some items from the estate of John GIBSON (Fanny GIBSON FITZGERALD'S brother)..listed on the same probate record are the names William JEARREL and William JEARELS..they must have been having an "Irish" or "Scotish" wake while conducting the sale of John's estate given that William's surname got spelled so many different ways...<smile>.I am sure the various spelling are often due first to "sounding out the spelling" and to who knows what else...including typos. But, I am sure these enteries are the same person . I have seen on the Yesterdays in Hamilton County site http://www.carolyar.com/Illinois/HamiltonCounty.htm various spellings of the FITZGERALD name depending on source/document. I know in the marriage index on that site that it shows up as FIRZGERALD,William W. married to Richards,Elizabeth Jane 21 Oct.1847 and three FITZTGERALD enteries..one showing Fitzgerald,William married to Gibson,Fanny 31 Dec 1843.There is also an entry for FRIZELL. I was poking around in Franklin County sites last night and ran into FITZGERRELL and FRIZEL. Based on various probate and land documents I have copies of, William W. FIRZGERALD and William FITZGERALD do not appear to be the same William Fitzgerald/Firzgerald...but wondering if related ...William and Fanny (Gibson)Fitzgerald are my line.
