    3. ELDORADO, ILL. - Kathleen Gray, 88, of Eldorado, passed away at 5:17 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Ferrell Hospital. Kathleen was born in Eldorado on Dec. 16, 1923, a daughter of the late Florence (Kimbro) and Leslie Leibenguth. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Eldorado. She and her husband owned and operated Gray's Laundry for over 37 years. She was the wife of Franklin Gray of 66 years, who survives. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Judy (Dale) Burzynski of Benton; grandson, Adam (Kristen) Nagreski of Johnston City; a sister, Peggy (Edward) Kertis of Dandridge, Tenn.; a brother, Don (Shirley) Leibenguth of Eldorado; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Hall; and a brother, Wayne Leibenguth. Funeral service will be at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, with Robert Coburn officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton.     3. MOUNT CARMEL - Harold Lee Vandever, 94, of Champaign and formerly a longtime resident of Mount Carmel and McLeansboro, passed away Dec. 9, 2011, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Champaign. He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Omer Oscar and Eva (McGrew) Vandever. Harold and Helen (Titus) Vandever were married July 30, 1938, in Perry, Okla.; she preceded him in death on March 18, 2000. They enjoyed almost 62 wonderful years of marriage. He served his country during World War II as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army. Harold worked for Shell Oil for 43 years. He is a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 57-year member of the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and his grandkids. Harold was better known to many as "Red" Vandever. He enjoyed caring for and training hunting dogs, with many winning awards. He was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. He provided assistance to many, and especially his neighbors. For many years, he volunteered to distribute food to needy families. He received recognition by the city, nominated by his neighbors, with a Good Neighbor Award. Harold is survived by daughter LeeAnn Elimon and her husband, Denny, of Mahomet; four grandchildren, Staci (Ron) Calvert of Kankakee, Van Phillips and Tim Elimon of San Antonio and Nicole (Joseph) Plowick of Mahomet; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Katie Calvert of Kankakee and Ethan and Mia Ann Plowick of Mahomet; one half brother, Wayne Vandever; one nephew, Garold Dewitt of Braman, Okla.; and one niece, Virginia Dewitt Mears of Virginia. Preceding Harold in death were his parents; wife; one grandchild; and sister Thelma Dewitt Kevitt of Blackwell, Okla. Funeral services were Tuesday at the chapel of Cunningham Funeral Home in Mount Carmel, with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.     3. Patricia Ann Compton Witsman, 75, passed away, Dec. 10, 2011, in Douglas, Ga., after a heroic two-and-a-half-year battle against cancer. Patricia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She lovingly leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Dale E. Witsman of McRae, Ga.; one daughter, Denise Best (George) of McRae; three sons, Dale E. Witsman Jr. of McRae, Charles A. Witsman (Mary) of Leesburg, Fla., and R. Ezra Witsman (Eric) of Waikoloa, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Allie Tanner (Brent) of Dublin, Ga., Caroline Witsman and Mary Catherine Witsman of Leesburg and Emily Katz (Josh Payne) of McRae; as well as two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Mollie Witsman of Leesburg; her mother, Beulah Wallace Compton of Winter Springs, Fla.; siblings Jane Welch of Lake San Marcos, Calif., Margaret Adams (Warren) of Sebring, Fla., Catherine Compton of Mount Dora, Fla., and E. David Compton (Linda) of Maitland, Fla.; and a plethora of loving nieces and nephews. Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Ezra Compton of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Beverly Cunningham of Eustis, Fla.; and a brother, Robert Compton of Merritt Island, Fla. Patricia was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Wabash County. She has made warm, loving homes for her family in Decker Chapel, Oaktown and Washington, Ind., McLeansboro and Dahlgren, Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., and finally McRae, Ga. She was a member of First Christian Church of Washington, Ind. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at McRae Presbyterian Church, McRae, Ga. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae.     3. Thurman (Mutt) Munsell 72-year-old McLeansboro resident, Thurman (Mutt) Munsell, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, December 16 at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. He was a retired construction worker. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the American Legion Post 106, a lifetime member of the Carmi VFW, a lifetime member of the McLeansboro Eagles Lodge #2699. He was born in Champaign on Sept. 17, 1960, to the late Charles Russell and Roberta (Owen) Shaw. He married Audra on Dec. 5, 1986, and she survives in Broughton. He worked as a machinist for Caterpillar in Norris City. Besides his wife he, is survived by two sons, Skyler Shaw of Broughton and Jeremy Shaw of Eldorado; three daughters, Danielle Gabbard of Harrisburg, Autumn (Justin) Leinenbach of Harrisburg and Jamie Shaw of Eldorado; three brothers, Ronnie Shaw of Evansville, Ind., John Shaw of Harrisburg and Eddie Owen of Harrisburg; three sisters, Marsha (Willie) Hopson of Eldorado, Connie (Jim) Cummins of Eldorado and Angel Owen of Harrisburg; and two grandchildren, Kailyn Clark and Lillian Shaw. He was born Sept. 9, 1970, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Terry Hall and Vickey (Dixon) Hall. He married Teri K. (Horton) Hall on Sept. 25, 1998. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Serena Hall of Macedonia, Kimberly Flanders and husband Jerry of Macedonia and Jennifer Fulkerson and husband Tim of Enfield; sons, Adam Jennings and companion Lacey Rapp of Macedonia and Aaron Jennings and wife Rebecca (Biggerstaff) of McLeansboro; brother, Keith Greer of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Lisa Sifuentes of Phoenix, Ariz. and Michelle Hall of Phoenix, Ariz.; father, Terry Hall of Phoenix, Ariz.; father-in-law, Fred Horton of Macedonia; grandsons, Hunter Flanders, Treyson Jennings and Tanner Jennings; and grandparents, Leroy and Ethel Hall of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his mother and mother-in-law. He was an order selector for Walgreens Distribution Industry, a member of 1st General Baptist Church in McLeansboro, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.     3. MT. VERNON - Opal LaDon Connaway, 87, of McLeansboro, died 5:42 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. She was born April 6, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Hulan and Myrtle (Bain) Gray. She married Billy Bob Connaway Nov. 2, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo.; he preceded her in death on May 3, 1981. Mrs. Connaway is survived by two daughters, Karen Cleveland and husband Barry of Crossville and Billie Ann Pearce and husband Dennis of Eldorado; two sons, Robert Connaway and wife Betty of McLeansboro and Larry Connaway and wife Patricia of Troy; a sister, Lucy Davis of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson and two sisters, Doris Stanwyck and Betty Ridenhour. Mrs. Connaway was a homemaker. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved to crochet, fish, travel and play with her grandchildren. Private family services will be conducted at a later date as per request of the deceased with Mary Erwin officiating. There will be no public visitation. Mrs. Waller was born on November 19, 1935 in Hamilton County, IL the daughter of Gus Carrell and Ethel Jane (Johnson) Carrell. She married Vernon Waller on October 29, 1955 and he survives. Charlotte was a housewife and a member of the Liberty Church of Christ, Thompsonville, IL. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading and cooking. She liked having company at her house and taking care of others. Surviving relatives include her husband, Vernon Waller, McLeansboro, IL, one daughter, Regina Nakamura and husband Nolan, Jonesboro, IL, a son, Gus Edward Smith and wife Debra, Meadow Vista, CA, two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Nakamura, Jonesboro, IL, Spencer Smith, Carbondale, IL, a brother, Ray Carrell and wife Margie, Mt. Vernon, IL, a sister, Linda Summers, Columbia Falls, MT, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Joe, Harry, John, Robert, and Richard Carrell, and one sister, Ruby Carrell. He was a 20-year U.S. military veteran, serving ten years in the U.S. Navy and ten years in the U.S. Air Force. He was also a Korean War Veteran, member of the American Legion Post, and also drove a school bus at the Norris City Schools for 20 years.
