(I can hear Sheldon groan and perhaps hear Jean Chamness roll over). Yes, I'm hoping for some new breath from more recent descendants of John Henry Chaplain, 1795 - 1858, who was in this area from 1828-1858, off and on. He has many descendants in this area, owned land in the adjoining counties, married to three women: Mary Pope (No. Carolina) 1813 - ?, Nancy Walker McKinney (Franklin Co.plus) , 8 children; married to Elizabeth McCluskey (lived in Franklin Co. and Lawrence Co., Arkansas plus), 4 children. My ancestor is from his third wife.upposedly shot while traveling from Imboden, AR, to Franklin County, IL, in February 1858. My ancestry is from the children of his third wife. I have a large file of various information to share with distant cousins. Any questions? Perhaps there are some new descendants who can lend credance to the reports of his death? Thanks, Donna Mariner Researching: BRADEN, BROYLES, SPILLER, FLANNIGAN, STERNS, CRABTREE, CHAPLAIN, JOHNSON, WALLER, MCCLUSKEY, HILL, PARSONS REED, PAGE, EVANS, BENSON, HEARD, OGLESBY, WEBB, ODLE, WILCOX, TANNER, LESSLEY, THOMPSON, KNIGHT, LEWIS, SMITH, CREEK, FINKS, MCCUNE, CARTER, LOGAN, ETC. Most of these ancestors wound up in Hamilton County and Franklin County, Illinois, some in White, Williamson, and Saline Counties in Illinois. They traveled west from Virginia, North and South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland...the way most of our ancestors came. They were Scot-Irish, English, German with a mix of other nationalities.

McLEANSBORO — The local historical society is adding a little music to its annual walk through the past. The Hamilton County Historical Society Cemetery Walk is set for 4 to 6 p.m. May 12 and this year will include the Silver Band, a 16-piece orchestra playing period music and dressing in late 1800s attire, according to Donetta Reed of the historical society. Those participating in the walk will meet on the south side of the downtown square in McLeansboro. Transportation will be provided to IOOF Cemetery, where the historical society will have seven portrayals of people from the past, Reed said. It’s all brought to life by Bill Reynolds, orchestra director, Reed added. Refreshments, door prizes and books will also be available. Tickets will be available on site for $5.
