    3. Sharlene Meyer 7:34 PM (2 minutes ago) to ILLHAMILT Hello Listers, I remember many years ago, maybe 2005, Joy Coonts Firrell posted a great deal of information on this and other lists. Joy was always ready to help anyone as they stepped back in time searching for their ancestors. At that time I thought her James L. Coonts was no relation to me. I now think I was in error and I would like to contact her again. Does anyone have any information about what might have happened to her? I sent an email to the address I found online and although it didn't bounce, I haven't received a reply. That leads me to believe I have an incorrect address or something has happened. If anyone could help me with information or a current email address, I would really appreciate it. Thank you all very much, Sharlene Coontz Meyer

    3. We lost a genealogy treasure with the death of Carol (and Frank) Rademacher. The Rademachers began the genealogy revival in Franklin and Hamilton Counties by transcribing all the early census records (before computers) and publishing "Phillips and Kin". It was because of their work and the availability of records that we were able to amass the Webb genealogy through the Webb Workshops back in the 1990s.....that genealogy now includes most families in Franklin County. (Sheldon and I decided back then that we might as well do the "whole" county as everyone was so inter-related.) I believe that Carol and Frank donated their copyrights to the Frankfort Area Genealogy Library. 1. [ILHAMILT] War of 1812 - 200th anniversary today
    2. Sandy Bauer
    3. The War of 1812 by DAR President General, Merry Ann T. Wright Today we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. On this day 200 years ago President James Madison and the United States Congress declared war on Great Britain. Battles raged throughout the continent for over 2 years before peace was negotiated. The primary causes of the war were the searching of American ships and the impressing of sailors to serve on British ships, as well as the failure of the British to withdraw from the western territories, British patronage of the Indians on the frontier and the British unwillingness to sign commercial agreements favorable to the United States. When you consider these causes it makes sense that this war is often referred to as the “second war of American independence.” In addition to ensuring our freedom from British power, This war gave us another cherished icon. During the Battle of Fort McHenry, the fort was bombarded by the British for 25 hours. The only light supply was from exploding shells, which illuminated the Flag that was still flying over the fort. This inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that provided the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner.” I hope many of you plan to hold ceremonies to honor the memory of War of 1812 Patriots and educate the public about this war and all it means to us as a country. -
