    3. PEG: Thank loads for the additional ALLEN info. I think it may prove more valuable than first realized. I noticed the counties that the ALLENs were in prior to entry into Illinois and am thinking there may have been contact with the GIBSON line originally in one of these counties. The Allens and Gibsons had more contact than just a couple of marriages in Hamilton County,Illinois. I have indicated this in some notes near bottom of this message. Perhaps the ALLENs and GIBSONs migrated together from same area of TN. I have not been able to locate ROBERT and SARAH GIBSON in TN yet...and Robert and Sarah sure had enough children between 1813 and at least 1827 to have left enough footprints around somewhere in TN before heading for Hamilton Co, ILLinois around the 1830s. I am curious about one of the individuals you listed: ZACHARIAH Y. ALLEN , b. 12 Oct 1795 in VA; d. 1 Aug 1844; Hamilton Co., IL.; m. 24 Jul 1819; Maury Co., TN. Buried Gholson Cemetery, Hamilton Co., IL. + FRANCIS SNOW BLANCHARD, b. 29 Jul 1798; NC or TN; d. 27 Jan 1872;Hamilton Co., IL;Buried Gholson Cemetery, Hamilton Co., IL. Any idea when ZACHARIAH Y. ALLEN actually got to Hamilton Co,Illinois? I see he married in Maury Co.,TN in 1819. Have you run into any land records showing him in Hamilton Co, Illinois? or anything else that might place when he got to Hamilton Co.? I see that one of Zachariah's nieces, CATHERINE ALLEN ( daughter of 5. JAMES H. ALLEN, b. 16 Jul 1791; Scott Co., KY; d. 1859; Giles Co., TN. + ELIZABETH REYNOLDS, b. 12 Feb 1792) was born in TN in 1817 and married in Hamilton Co,IL in 1837. I am guessing that she migrated with other Allen family members to Illinois at the same time...I see that her brother viii. ZACHARIAH ALLEN (+ ELIZABETH R. ALLEN, m. 3 Oct 1847: Hamilton Co., IL.)also moved to Hamilton Co.,Illinois ii. CATHERINE ALLEN, b. 1817; TN. + 1st husband: THOMAS HART BENTON ALLEN , m. 26 Oct 1837; Hamilton Co., IL; I am guessing that CATHERINE AND ZACHARIAH ALLEN migrated to Hamilton Co, Illinois with their Uncle ZACHARIAH Y. ALLEN and his family. If this is correct it would place them in Hamilton Co.,Illinois somewhere between 1817 and 1837; I am guessing around 1836. This is roughly the time ROBERT GIBSON and Sarah show up in Hamilton Co,Illinois. Robert filed a land grant claim in Shawneetown in 1838 showing his residence as Hamilton Co,Illinois. All this to say, I am hoping by checking in Maury Co, TN, that I might find my elusive Gibson/Gipson bunch there before they head for Illinois. Now, a couple of other interesting notes: I have some copies of probate records (thanks to Shirls !!) of some of my GIBSON clan. In a few of these are mentioned various ALLENs in one way or another. In the Sale Bill for the Estate of ROBERT GIBSON 24 Feb 1852 is mentioned DUDLEY R. ALLEN. And I have a couple of other documents that indicate that JAMES W. ALLEN was administrator of the estate of AMOS GIBSON 20 Dec 1880(this was Petition for Letters of Administration... signed by JAMES W. ALLEN ). There seems to be confusion about this since another document says JOHN W. ALLEN 27 April 1882(this was not signed by him). There is a WILLIAM G. ALLEN listed on the probate list of Notes and Accounts of JOHN GIBSON 21 Oct 1872. Also, a L or J(ames) ALLEN appears on the Sale Bill for the Estate of WILLIAM B HAMPTON 26 Feb 1864. WILLIAM B HAMPTON was the spouse of widow NANCY A. HAMILTON who married widower JAMES W. GIBSON (my gg grandfather and son of ROBERT and SARAH GIBSON). I would be happy to make copies of these documents and e to you. Let me know if you would like copies. I have sent copies of some of these and other GIBSON documents to JAMES GHOLSON so he can put up on his BROUGHTON web site which has a lot of Hamilton Co, Illinois, info on it....he has already put up some GIBSON documents and more to come. You might want to check it out to see if any names are there you might be looking for. His url is http://www.spiff.net/~gholson/broughton.htm . The GIBSON documents are under the Wills and Probate Sales directory/link on his site. Also a copy of my GIBSON tree to date (a work in progress) under the Research Family link. Jim has a lot of other interesting stuff there also. I decided to put my GIBSON documents there since my great grandfather, JOHN LOGAN GIBSON, was born and reared in Broughton. The documents will appear over a period of time as he can get them up on his site. So my question doesn't get lost in the info, let me ask it again. Any idea when ZACHARIAH Y. ALLEN actually got to Hamilton Co,Illinois ? Thanks, Barb in Savannah,GA

    3. I am trying to sort out all the James Allens in Hamilton County. I think this is a different family, but I'm not sure. James had eight children with his first wife: James II, Elizabeth, Samuel B., William D., Nancy J., James W., Riley, and Willis A. Allen. Joseph is Josephus Allen, son of Josiah Allen and Winnifred/Winneford Ingram. He married Rosanna Dewitt on 26 Jul 1858 in Hamilton Co., IL. They are buried in Union Cemetery. His siblings were: Caroline G., Penelope, James R., Winniford (married Wilburn Marion Anderson), and Rachel Paulina Allen (married John S. Anderson). Josephus and Rosanna had at leaset three children: Josephus II, Columbus, and James. Hope this helps. 3. Barb, I think that James Barnett's middle name was probably Zachariah after his grandfather. E. C. is Elizabeth Catherine Allen. Probate records showed she married William Barnett. There seems to be alot of cousins marrying cousins here. Also a couple of double weddings. So, perhaps, your Elizabeth Catherine Allen married William Barnett on or about 25 Jan 1855, when her brother married Nancy Barker. The source of the following information is from marriage records, cemetery records, census records, and family notes at Hamilton County Queries. 1. [ILHAMILT-L] Looking for a CURRY
    2. Barbara Marcovecchio
    3. I have Jane GIBSON, daughter of Amos GIBSON and Sarah REED, married to an unknown CURRY... evidence is in a probate record of her father where she is listed as Jane CURRY. I am reaching for straws on this one. Don't have a birth date or place for her; though I assume TN prior to her family coming to Hamilton Co.,IL. This would fit with rest of her siblings. Given that her father was born in 1815 and died in 1880 and that she was alive at time of his death, I would assume her birth date anywhere from about 1835 upwards and her death date after 7 Jul 1880 (her father's death date). Is anyone aware of any CURRY family or family member moving to MO during this time frame? Her father, Amos GIBSON, was a longtime resident of Hamilton Co,IL. and for whatever reason was in Ash Hills, Butler, MO. at the time of his death in 1880. He had been in Hamilton Co, IL at the previous census in 1870.

In her obituary she says that her family (they came to Il ca 1853) came by boat (Ohio River) to Shawneetown, IL and then by wagon to Hamilton County, IL. They lived in OH and KY counties next to the Ohio River. Darlene

    3. Hi List, It has been a long time since I posted but I have a question for all of you. Is there a list someplace of riverboats that traveled the Mississippi River from St. Louis downstream to Hamilton County? I know someone traveling by riverboat would have to travel due east overland from the Mississippi to reach Hamilton County. My Martin COONS, SR. disappeared from a riverboat/steamboat in 1846 while traveling from St. Louis to his home in HCI. Anybody have any ideas on where to search for such information? Thanks everybody, Sharlene Coontz Meyer

Have anyone seen or know about something like this. I understand there some in Hamilton co, area when Dad was growing up. Dad was 9 years old when his father died in Hamilton co, IL in 1919. there is no picture of Granddad Grant, tho have been told he look like one of his older son. Would be nice to locate something concerning him. Have more detail birth dates, death dates and etc concerning each of the family mentioned. Jean

    1. [ILHAMILT-L] Early Deens - A Conundrum
    2. Dr. Denruth Lougeay
    3. Dear List... My cousins and I have two burning questions to ask. We are stuck on two items. Does anyone on the group have any inkling regarding these matters? Item #1: Who is father of Jacob Deen, Jr. that mar Martha Ann Johnson? One researcher says that he is son of Jacob Clay Deen and Sarah Lane. Other researchers were adamant that the Jacob Deen, Jr. that mar Martha Ann Johnson was the son of William Deen (bro of Jacob Clay Deen), Page 63 of Harrelson's Hamilton County Marriages shows Jacob Dean and Sarah Lane had a double marriage with Lewis Lane and Nancy Deen. Bro & sister, mar sister and bro on 17 April 1824. Jacob Deen, Jr. was b 15 Sep 1823. He would have been the oldest child of Jacob Clay and born 7 months before they mar. Item #2 William Deen 1st mar Jane Coffee b 29 Dec 1804 d 1837. He then mar Barsheba Jane Durham. The children of William are spread between 1820 and 1841. Jane would have been alive when the first 8 children (including Jacob Deen, Jr.) were born. What we don't know - was she mar to William and 8 of the 10 kids belonged to her. Or do most or all of the kids belong to Barsheba Jane Durham? Thanks so much for any input anyone has and any sources to clarify this information. People seem to have history by word of mouth but in need of proofing! Denee Lougeay San Diego CA

    3. My ancestors-Martin Luther & Ann Susan(Smith) Hicks-m in 1851 in Monroe Co. Tn and eventually moved to Hamilton Co.IL where Luther bought land in 1857. I don't show a Redfearn or Leslie or Peck in my family tree, but I don't have all the history of the family nor the names of in-laws and cousins. May have some connection. I will keep those names in my records just in case. Trudy Vaughn ----- Original Message ----- From: David E. 3. I noticed the the recent postings on REDFERN that they came from Monroe County Tennessee as did my g2 grandfather, Thomas Preston Leslie and wife Nancy Peck. They came to Hamilton County in 1851. Just wondering if anyone knows did they come as a group. Also, any ideas on what would have been the most likely mode of travel from east Tennessee to Hamilton County. It would have been quite a trip in a covered wagon as roads were primitive.
