Sorry for any proble. I do not know what happened. I did not e-mail anyone, but sure did get the e-mails. Betty Sink@Midwest.net
Rolene, I don't know what procedure they have at the Courthouse for pulling probate records. If it is just a will you probably could get a copy easily if you tell them the location of the record. However, do not overlook the probate packets as they are filled with information. My ancestors did not leave a will and died intestate, but the probate packets gave me so much information. One ancestor died in 1884 and one in 1844. One Hamilton County resident, whom I believe is my ancestor, but could not find a probate record for him deed land to Reuben McMahan. Land records can be beneficial when no other probate record can be found. I found heirs signing for the sale of my ancestor's land in Pike County, IN and that is all I ever found in the way of a probate record. Among those heirs was my ancestor, Elizabeth Simmons and the National Society of DAR accepted that as proof that Elizabeth was an heir of Peter Kinder III. Darlene

Is there a procedure for obtaining copies of Hamilton County probate records AFTER 1855? I recently returned from a research trip to Salt Lake and found some references in an index, however, their files only go to 1855. Rolene Kiesling, Groveland, CA

Thomas Berry Wooldridge was the son of John Wooldridge and Nancy Bourland. He was born in 1827 KY and died at his home in Hamilton Co., IL on 15 Apr 1894. He is buried in Hebron Church Cemetery, Hamilton Co., IL. His parents resided in Hoodsville. Thomas married Matha Jane Ritchey on 14 Jun 1849 in Hamilton Co., IL. She was born in 1832 Ky and died Nov 1906. She is buried with her husband. After the marriage, the couple moved back to KY for a while, where they resided with Thomas's uncle. They had four children in KY: Charles, Louella Annette "Nettie", Cordelia, and Henry Frank. They moved back to Hamilton Co., IL by the 1860 Census, and had five more children: John H., Thomas G., David Berry, Samuel Erastus "Rassie", and Lee. Thomas was a farmer, and an elder of Hebron Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He left a will, recorded in McLeansboro. That's what I have. Thomas Berry Wooldridge was born 1827 (Kentucky, probably) and died in Hamilton County, Illinois in 1892; He married Martha Jane Ritchey before 1850, she was born 1834 and died 1906. Can anyone help with the ancestry of Thomas and Martha? In the 1860 census, there is Samuel Ritchey, two doors down from Thomas and Martha, are these her parents? All comments and help are appreciated. thank you. Rolene Kiesling, Groveland, CA
Here is a helpful site that helps figure out a birth date, if you just have the death date and age (like you find on several graves). http://www.icubed.com/~ldill/utilities/BDCalc.html Have a GREAT day! Stacy Smith (searching for the surnames: Green, McLaughlin, Wion, Jones, Truitt, and Stephen that came to Decatur county, IA, AND Stone, Elkins, Ward, Gillespie, Coots, Shain, Polley, Clevenger, Hook, and Smith that were in Harrison County, MO) Some say I am living in the past...I say "Naw just my computer is."
Would anyone on either White or Hamilton list have the 1870 Wayne Co. census ? I am looking for the Milton A. Taylor family. They may possibly be in the Big Mound area. Thank You , Carolyn Campbell White

Check with your local library for issues of "THE SAGA OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS" to see if they have the issue you want. My home town has a limited amount of issues and Belleville, Illinois has a lot of them. I would think that larger cities would have more to offer. James Carolyn, Are you looking for a specific issue of THE SAGA OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS? Darlene

Carolyn, THE SAGA OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS is a quarterly publication of The Genealogy Society of Southern Illinois. Submit all articles and queries for publication in The Saga to The Genealogy Society of Southern Illinois, c/o John A. Logan College, 700 Logan College Road, carterville, Il 62918-9599. I have been a member for years and I am copying this information from the July-September 2000 issue. I cannot find my copy of the Winter or Spring issue, but to my knowlege they have not discontinued publication. Darlene Shawn
Joan: You've already found out the parents of Susan, who I have also seen at times as Susannah (in "Hunting the Hunts", also written by Clara Hunt Miller). Her children and descendants are discussed in detail in that work, "Hunting the Hunts". My records show Susan (Susannah) born July 1837, died January 1, 1874, and she was born in Illinois. Sorry, but she's the only one I recognize, as she ties into my family via the Hunt line. Also, FYI, Henry remarried after Susan's death, to Susan A. Smith, on August 30, 1876, so there were plenty of Susan's (wives and children) in that family. Kent J. <<<<<Can anyone identify these Heard females from the Hamilton County marriage listing. Can someone tell me about the publication " Saga of Southern Illinois ". Is it still published ? Are old copies still available ? Thank You, Carolyn Campbell White
