The Social Security Applications that I have requested have provided the birthplace and birth date of the applicant, the full names of the parents, where the applicant was working at the time and where he or she lived when application was filed. Based on what I have learned about the price increases, I have sent in twenty request for the SS-5 Form. Before 1 Jul I plan to request mine and my husband's also, just for my records. I want a copy of the original and not the computer copy. The original is signed by the applicant. This was certainly not well advertised by the genealogical societies. I only read it on this list. All my twenty request were sent in separate envelopes and separate checks. Darlene

Subject: SSA fees to go up for Apps... "If you have been procrastinating sending off for a Social Security application for any of your ancestors, now is the time to do it! Effective July 1, 2001, there will be a major fee increase for processing requests for copies of original applications for Social Security cards and for computer extracts of this information. This has been confirmed with Roger Williams in the FOIA office of the SSA. New Fees (effective July 1, 2001): Copies of the original application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5) will cost $27 if the social security number is provided, and $29 if it is not provided. These fees were previously $7 and $16.50, respectively. Computer extracts of the application will cost $16 with the number and $18 without. Requests postmarked prior to July 1, 2001 will not be subject to the new fees. So, if you've procrastinated on your requests, get them in now! Requests posted on or after July 1, 2001, will be returned if they do not include the new amount and a credit card number has not been provided to charge for additional costs." ----- Original Message ----- From: Misty Flannigan To: LADD-L@rootsweb.com Cc: ILJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com ; VAUGHN-L@rootsweb.com ; FLANNIGAN-L@rootsweb.com ; ILHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, June 24, 2001 9:03 PM Subject: SSA fees to go up Subject: SSA fees to go up for Apps... Hi List, Sometime during the mid 1960's possibly August of 1966., my family and I were visiting in McLeansboro- (we were there for the funeral of my grandmother, Mrs. Aaron (Anna) Smith who passed away on Aug. 3. . I think there was a summer celebration of some type going on. A photographer took a picture of my daughter Judy- age 4 at that time- I think she was under a large tree, she had 2 brothers ages 7 and 10, but not sure that they were in the picture. I think the picture appeared in The Times Leader. I can't remember if picture used names or where we were from. Last name would have been Baldin from Lincoln,IL Does the Times Leader have copies of the papers for this time period? Could someone do a look up and see if the picture exists.? Also tell me how to obtain a copy of it? Would greatly appreciate any help. Evalyn

Hello again, Does anyone have any information about a Martin JOHNSON. I don't have any dates on him. He was probably born real early 1820's possibly in Greene Co., TN. His daughter, Leanor, Luany, Leanna JOHNSON was in IL by 1848 when she was married to Jonathan BROWNING, so I am assuming her parents brought her here. TIA Virginia
Virginia: Unfortunately, I am no help to you, but wanted to let you know that I did check a reference book on the "Early Johnson's of Hamilton County" (2000, compiled by Rev. Bill Dupree). It contained no Leanore Johnson, no Leanore Browning, (Leander and other spellings, but no Leanore) nor did it have Johnathon Browning. Sorry I can't help, but if you have more information (such as birth and death dates), I'll try to keep an eye out for you, as I'm researching my Johnson ancestors in Hamilton County. Best of luck.
