As I patiently (?) await my copy of the obituary book, could someone tell me if they could look up a Jefferson M Greenlee. Died maybe November 1916 in Thackery, Hamilton Co? I think his wife was Sarah Prince. Thanks, Susan Stewart
Hi, I'm new to the Hamilton County email list. I am looking for any information relating to the Carey/Cary family in Hamilton County. As I get my material organized, I will provide information from a central location for all other researchers. Many people have been helpful so far, and I hope to return the favor for future geneologists. Cheers, Curtis

A user e-mailed me about a problem with accessing the obits on McLeansboro.com. The names will list out, but the links generate a missing page error. After looking at it, the obits are really there, it is just the link that is messed up. You can repair the link manually in the address window in your browser by removing the repeated items in the middle of the address. Here is an example ... Error link: http://www.mcleansboro.com/obits/2000/obits/2000/radams.htm Correct link: http://www.mcleansboro.com/obits/2000/radams.htm The '/obits/2000' part is mistakenly repeated. Just thought I would pass this along for any others that might be having problems with this. Mike ______________________________________ Michael L. A GENEALOGIST'S CHRISTMAS By Pat Newhouse 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; For I am a genealogist and I had forgot The tree wasn't up and not a single gift was bought. While little children's heads were full of sugarplum thrills, I had spent the whole season looking for grandparents' wills, While others had fought the crowds to purchase their Christmas cheer, I had used my time to look for Granny's birthplace and year, But then out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, That I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter, But was it old Santa I had come to expect, Not to bring happy gifts, but to wring my fool neck? He had a big red bag all slung over his back, But it looked more to me like a big mail sack. Toys he had for children, lots of candies and cookies too. Then he did a turnabout and said, "Now it's time for you." Then he pulled out a package, seemed funny-shaped to me, "My gift to you," he said, "A branch of your own family tree," There were all the missing links I had tried so hard to find. The documents and pictures too; it was a genealogical gold mine! As he started to leave, I gave him a big hug. He'd made the merriest Christmas ever for this humble genie bug. Off to his waiting reindeer and up and away he flew, Saying, "Merry Christmas to all and a good hunting to you!" This came on the Bond site Treasa Bond Brookman

Not researching any of these but thought I would mention in case you didn't know.... just from looking at the obits book at a glance, Uel Harrison Hutson is also buried there and in 1888 it was referred to as the family burying ground. His wife is named as Elizabeth Mitchell.... may or may not be a connection to your Lucinda?? Trev
Seeking confirmation of relationship between my Hutsons of KY with those in "Hutson Cemetery" Hamilton Co IL: "My" John P(inkney) Hutson (1827-1895) is buried here, with wife Eliza C. (1843-1885) and daughter Lydia J. Jennings (1873-1912) and son Charles W. (1875-1912). This makes me feel like John P. is kin to the other Hutsons buried there--Eliza Hutson Barron, Louisa Hutson Campbell, Teresa Hutson Sloan, Susan Hutson Upchurch and Ida Hutson Upchurch, plus other Hutsons there, including the wife of Uel Hutson (Mary E.) and other of his children. John Pinkney Hutson is the youngest son of John Hutson and Sarah Little Hutson, who lived in Livingston Co KY (on Illinois border). After Sarah's death, John married Lucinda Mitchell and had several more Hutson children. At John's death, there was a lawsuit between his presumed heir and youngest son, James K. Polk Hutson, and the other children, from both marriages. James K. Polk retained possession of the estate. My great-grandfather, Thomas Hutson, one of the sons from second marriage, eventually sold his property and moved to AL. It appears that John Pinkney moved to Illinois. Does anyone know of his relationship to the Illinois Hutsons? My theory is that they are all related to Chamberlain Hutson. John Pinkey Hutson's father John was born c. 1793 in NC. Would love to hear from anyone with any clues....
Will someone look up a death notice/obit/or whatever on Charles Hutchcraft born 1851 Hamilton County; died 1852. Son of John and Mary Charlotte Hutchcraft? Gail Hahn Hutchcraft ladybug@arends-sons.com

Okay cousins! I think I've located the third wife of James W. Gibson - a Mrs. Amelia [nee Walton] Degeer. Wives of James W. Gibson: #1 Prudence Irene McGinnis who he married on 16 Dec 1850 in Union Co.,IL. - she died 27 Dec 1862 [mother of John Logan Gibson] #2 Mrs. Nancy A. [nee Hamilton] Hampton- - who James W. Gibson married on 3 Sep 1864 in Hamilton Co.,IL - she died 27 Jun 1881 #3 Mrs. Amelia/Amilia [nee Walton] Degeer-?-who James W. Gibson married 18 Oct 1882 in Gallatin Co., IL. James W. Gibson is listed on the 1900 Federal Census for Mayberry Township/Broughton, Hamilton Co.,IL. pg. 317A Supervisor's District No 14 Enumeration District No 56 Sheet No 1 Mayberry Township [village] Broughton.... lines 33 thru 36: Gibson, James W head w m [Aug 1828] age 71 [M] [17 yrs married] .. .. b.Tenn father b. NC mother b. NC .. .. .. Farmer........owned the farm Gibson, Amelia wife w f [Jan 1838] age 62 [M] [17 yrs married][ births 3 children/ living 1] b. IL father born in MS mother born in ? Gibson, John relative boarder w m ... ... ...S... .. .. b. IL father. IL mother IL farm laborer Gibson, America relative boarder w f .. .. ...S.. .. .. b. IL father. IL mother IL I know that the John Gibson listed is not John Logan Gibson, son of James W. Gibson and first wife, Prudence Irene [nee McGinnis]. John Logan Gibson had moved to Smith Mills, Henderson Co.,IL., long before this and married and had several children. John L. Gibson and family moved to California about 1906. I have a hunch that the John and America listed on the 1900 are a nephew and niece of James W. Gibson...unfortunately the ages weren't given...uh! James W. Gibson's brother, John, [ listed as a Regular Baptist Preacher in Perry County,IL in 1850] died in Hamilton Co.,IL., in 1872...and according to his probate left no children. Anybody have any information on Amelia/Amilia [nee Walton] Degeer or the two boarders, John and America Gibson? This maybe John M. Gibson, son of Daniel Gibson [brother of James W.] and Malinda [nee Trout] and his spouse [?] America. I am not at all sure whether John M. Gibson was married or not or when he died. So far the only clue I have about him would have him born about 1865... making him 35 in 1900 if this is him on the 1900 census.
