Hi Patrick, Was getting ready to email and ask you about Thurman and Silas Sandusky. Thank you for all the information.. David Franklin Sandusky obit lists 2 sets of 3 Sandusky boys. Did Robert, Harris and Marion all belong to Ray Sandusky? I was wondering who Clyde, Kenneth and Verne Sandusky belonged to. You have answered the Clyde and Kenneth question. Was Verne also a son of Thurman or did he belong to Clarence.? Clarence obit does not say whether he had children, at least there are none listed as surviving him. As far as I know Aquilla had no children. I remember him from when we visited with my Grandpa and Grandma Aaron Smith in McLeansboro. Do you know if Thurman went to Iowa City and died there? Or did he die in Mt. Vernon, IL., before 1947? Also wonder "why" they went to Iowa.. Both Virgil and Orville Warfield born 1903-1905- sons of Charles W. Warfield-(son of Cynthia Alice Warfield Smith) went to Davenport Iowa sometime after 1920. Thanks again for telling me about Thurman and his family. The Hamilton Co. L will be happy too.(I'll quit asking them to look for him). Now if we could just find Silas. Hi all, Last week several folks discussed the refusal of the Hamilton Co. courthouse personnel to allow photocopying of indexes or many other items in the clerk's office. Has anyone filed a formal Freedom of Information Act request or have all contacts been informal? I am certainly not an expert in this field but other than charging 35 cents a page for photocopying and claiming privacy for anything newer than 1920 I don't see that they have a basis to deny the request, if the requester does the copying themselves or has their agent to do so. I don't want to get anyone in trouble or angry at me but these folks are supposed to serve the public, including genealogists. Tammy: Like many others, I like your idea for such a project. I would be interested in either format, book or CD, but must admit I like a book for easy reference and mobility. My primary cemeteries of interest are Little Springs (Johnson line), Cartwright (Hatcher line), Smith Chapel (Griswold line), Old Hickory Hill (Davis line) and Knight's Prairie (Hunt line). Since nearly all of my father's ancestors have been in Hamilton County since pre-1900 (1819 for the Johnson's), I would greatly appreciate it if you would include my name as a reserve for the book (or CD if that is the chosen format). Please let me know if there's any way I could be of assistance. Thanks. Kent Johnson
I seem to have "lost" a couple of great uncles-sons of my g grandfather David Franklin Sandusky. In the 1900 census all 9 of David and Ella Sandusky children were living at home in Knights Prairie Twp. Hamilton co. IL In 1910- Silas, Thurman, Anna, and Ray are gone, but Anna married in 1909 and not sure about Ray, but he appears later. I have found no record of Silas or Thurman. According to the obit of David Franklin Sandusky when he died in 1947- Silas and Thurman had died just a few years earlier. So I would expect that they should be somewhere in 1910 and 1920 Silas Sandusky was born Feb. 1885- IL Thurman Sandusky was born Nov. 1886- IL Anyone on the list have any information about Silas or Thurman Sandusky.? Thanks for any information. Evalyn
I'd like to correspond with anyone researching the Trout and Schoolcraft lines of Hamilton Co. Is there any descendant from either of these lines still residing in Hamilton Co.? Thanks, Sandra
Tammy, I'd sure be interested in your project. There are so many cemeteries in Hamilton county, I'm not sure I could single out which ones I would want. Have you considered in putting the whole project on CD instead of publishing? This would help cut costs considerably and speed up the final product. Put me on your list of future purchasers. Michelle, I concur that there is still great value in doing a book. While I like the idea of a cd for the reasons I mentioned, your points for a book are equally valid. Thinking about it more brings to my attention that a book will always have "staying power" long past changing technology. And I for one am still a book hound despite the ease of using the computer for some things. I still enjoy the feel of paper in my hands while reading my pedigree charts and notes... seems to make folks closer. I have to admit I will dig out the paper copies and books as often as I will hit the keyboard - for the same info. So, count me in on both your and Tammy's projects and put me on your reserve lists. Living far from Hamilton Co. and White Co. makes the idea of looking up from my computer to the top shelf and seeing the two books within easy reach even more appealing in my mind's eye. Good luck and thanks to everybody dedicated to making it possible for the rest of us to get a little closer to our "family" - whether by book, cd, or website. Barb
Tammy, Count me in on your cemetery project if you decide to do it. I am especially interested in Liberty Cemetery, Little Springs Cemetery and Digby Hill if that is in Hamilton County. Good luck. Nancy
Hello all; My name is Michelle Young and I am currently doing cemetery inscription books with pictures in White county... When I started this I asked a friend of mine to help me out with it which she did and then just by talking with her she was interested in doing some books of her own. I told her to pick a county and the county that she picked was Hamilton. We posted a message a few days ago and got a huge response from people who were interested in the book. I guess I am writing this to try and clarify what she is doing as I have read some of the postings on the price that it would take to do such a book and have found that some people are alittle apprehensive about the cost and then some people are giving her negative input which is fine as everyone has there own opinions which is exactly what we want out of each and every one of you. The cost of this book is not going to be alot..as we both have computers, a camera for our computers, and a printer. I am in contact with a lady that has done Wayne County cemeteries and while she does not make a profit--some people do not have a computer and the people that do have a computer still would like to have a book that they can make quick reference to. And even though she did her books in the 70's she is still getting alot of orders for them. I do want to commend Misty Flannigan for the task that she has taken on by putting all of the cemeteries on the net but at the same time I think that having a reference book is good to have also. So I do not think that what Tammy is doing would be a waste of time. Now if we have offended anyone in any way then an apology is in order and we will not move any further with this. If anyone is still interested in these books then please e-mail Tammy with your Hamilton County requests and me with your White County requests...:) Thank you for your time and all of your input.... Sincerely, Michelle Young
Tammy, Please put the Wooldridge Family Cemetery on your list. These family cemeteries seem to disappear quickly these days. Also put me on your reserve list, should you decide on a CD. What a great idea! That would appeal to a wide range of people, the pictures would not fade over time, and it can always be updated easily! Thanks. Peg Spencer
Hi Trev, I have many cemeteries from Hamilton Co in which I have pictures, hoping to get online soon. My kids are very active in school which takes up so much of my time! Our goal is to have all of Hamilton Co put online including photos by the fall, maybe sooner. I am in the process of moving my Hamilton Co site as Geocities just isn't working out anymore. Crisel should be online complete with photos along with Bethel in Ham Co. I haven't checked lately though, they may have disappeared! I have about 10 other cemeteries completed with photos, just need to get them done! My goal is get them online as we have done Jefferson Co. I have several folks who have volunteered to help me finish up. I have no plans of making a book or doing anything for profit as it is my goal to keep genealogy free and as accessable to folks as I can. -Misty- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trev" <thward@cafes.net> To: <ILHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 7:14 AM Subject: [ILHAMILT-L] Re: opinion needed for new cemetery inscription w/pictures book > > > I am thinking about publishing cemetery inscription books with pictures of > > every stone of Hamilton County cemeteries... > > > > What I need from you all is your opinions about this; whether you would > > purchase this sort of book; if it would be something that would be useful > to > > you in your research...etc.. > > > > Also if this is something that you are interested in-- I would need > requests > > for cemeteries that you would like to have in each book. > > Well, there has been ongoing census transcription projects (2) to put all of > Hamilton Co's cemeteries online for research...with the majority already > available at these two URL's... > > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5807/ > > http://www.carolyar.com/Illinois/HamiltonCounty.htm > > At the first URL Misty had been trying to link each transcription with a > picture of the headstone and a pic of the church (which reminds me, I have > several for the southern Ham cemeteries headstones, about 4 rolls of film, > if I can get my darn scanner going). Hello, this is my annual posting in hopes that someone out there has information on my brick wall which are my gggrandparents, John Wesley Finn, born 1815, Jackson Co., TN, and Lucitta Groves, born 1821, Jefferson Co., KY. John Wesley Finn and Lucitta lived in Adair Co., KY for at least 20 years, 185? through 187?. They then moved to Illinois, settling in Hamilton Co., IL. The last time they are on the census is the 1880 one. They had 7 children, all born in Adair Co., KY. Rosana, James Carroll, b 10/23/1848 (my ggrandfather), Sarah Catherine, b 04/30/1855, David Crockett, b 01/20/1856, General Zachariah Taylor, b 09/06/1859, John Wesley, b 01/05/1863, and Margaret Elizabeth, b 07/30/1864. All their children migrated to Illinois as well. I have not been able to confirm any information on the siblings or parents of John Wesley or Lucitta. I have quite a bit of information for the children and their descendants. Any information would be appreciated. Great idea! A CD with digital photos would make it more cost effective. No film or developing cost . And having the resource available on computer would be great. Also ability to have large cross referenced index with cemeteries and surnames a plus. Way to go Tammy and Darlene. Sounds like you two need to get together. Barb p.s. put me on your "reserved" list for future purchase... with all the Hamilton County leaves on my tree I need this resource. -----Original Message----- From: Djshawn636@aol.com [mailto:Djshawn636@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 3:27 AM To: ILHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILHAMILT-L] opinion needed for new cemetery inscription w/pictures book Tammy, I would like to see a new book on the Hamilton County Cemeteries, but would the cost be prohibitive with pictures of every stone? Hello; I am thinking about publishing cemetery inscription books with pictures of every stone of Hamilton County cemeteries... What I need from you all is your opinions about this; whether you would purchase this sort of book; if it would be something that would be useful to you in your research...etc.. Also if this is something that you are interested in-- I would need requests for cemeteries that you would like to have in each book. Thank you for all opinions and requests, Tammy
Does any one have any family information about Lottie McCollum? Would like to know her birth, marriage and death dates., parents names. She married Joseph Edward Smith b. Nov.1881 IL. They lived for many years in California, where Mr. Smith was a Southern Pacific Railroad Company employee. Lottie died in 1942-- probably in California. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Jefferson Co., Mt.Vernon, Illinois. Joseph E. Smith returned to Hamilton Co.sometime after Lottie's death and died in McLeansboro in May, 1971.
