Hello Ham Co Listers, I had a chance to go out to Prospect Cemetery this weekend. I want to report that the cemetery was freshly mowed and looked well taken care of. I only say this because in the past I had reported tall grass and neglect. I don't know what the deal was but I'm glad that it is being kept up nicely again. I hope to get this one online soon! I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend!! -Misty-
Happy Memorial Day Everyone! Does anyone know if the Thackeray Baptist Church is still in existence. If so, does anyone know how I can contact the church? I am planning on making a trip to Hamilton County sometime this summer and would like to look at the church records for information about my grandfather. Thanks for your help. Dear Listers, Thanks to those who sent me their addresses to replace my lost address book. I still have a lot missing. Also thanks for the tips that might help find them. They seem to have disappeared completely. I received some information during the 3 weeks that my computer was "down" about some of my ancestors. . Was planning to get online and catch up but it will be a while before I can reply and thank the folks who sent the info. On Tuesday, May 14, I fell and fractured bones in my right wrist and will be wearing a cast for the next 5 to 6 weeks, So, if you sent me information and haven't heard from me, please don't think I am being unappreciative, just can't spend much time on computer. Take care, Evalyn

Hello, I would really appreciate receiving addresses of the folks with whom I have had email conversations. My complete address list has been lost. I didn;t memorize any of them, because Outlook Express knew address to use as soon as I typed in a name. About 3 weeks ago the modem on my computer died and I took computer to local computer ?technician?. He installed a new modem but my computer still wouldn't connect to internet, so he said that I didn't have enough RAM memory available for modem to work and that needed to take everything off the computer, reload windows and start over. While taking all of the messages out of my outlook express, he somehow lost ALL of my addresses.. I went to the folder where he had saved the messages, thinking I could find most of the addresses there. but, the messages were there, but not the names of the people who had sent them. Thanks for your help. Evalyn

Well Folks, That is the last of the surviving letters. Several of the letters from the early months of the war service of the 87th have been scattered among family members and I do not have them all. The letters were kept in a wooden box by Elizabeth Hooker (nee Cottingham). They passed to her youngest daughter Amy Hooker who inherited the house that McAllister and Elizabeth had built after the war. Amy Hooker married Chester Anderson (son of 2Lt Warner Anderson of Co A 87th) and they continued to live in the Hooker home until their deaths in the 1950's. I first saw the letters in 1973 when I visited my uncle Everett. My uncle Everett Anderson continued to live in the home until he became ill in the 1980's. My aunt Nina found the box of letters in the roll top desk on the back porch of the home and passed them to my father, knowing of the work that I was doing on the family history. About 1995 I transcribed them into my computer. The house still stands on the northeast bank of the McLeansboro city reservoir along route 14 west of town. Many of you probably still drive by it daily. It is owned by a cousin who is determined to save and restore it.
