    3. I think perhaps you are looking at grandchildren in the 1850 census....Tabitha at age 58 is a bit "long in the tooth" to have 4 children under 5 years of age. Those early family continued to use the same christian names over and over thru the generations. ladybug wrote: > FOOTNOTE TO PREVIOUS LETTER: > > 1. 3. I have a problem - hope someone can help. First, I will list the Mastin Bond family as I have it in my records - dates all correspond w/husbands and families...I know Captain John Bond birth date to be 2-24-18161 Mastin Bond 1786 - 1847 Tabitah Ward Bond 1792 - after 1850 (children dates approx.) Susan Bond 1808 Elizabeth Bond 1810 Elisha Bond 1816 Mahala Bond 1814 John Bond (Civil War Captain) 2-24-1816 (our GGGrandfather) Richard Wade Bond 1819 Samuel Riley Bond 1821 Delilah Jane Bond 1823 Sarah Ann Bond 1824 Nancy J. Bond 1831 Moses Bond 1834 NOW, in the 1850 Hamilton County Census I find the following: Mastin Bond - not listed, he died in 1847 Tabitha Bond age 58 b. abt 1792 - this is OK (children - please note the great difference) Moses age 16 (birthdate would be abt 1834) Sarah A. 14 1836 Lucy J 17 1833 Tabitha E. 5 1845 Elizabeth 4 1846 Samuel R. 2 1848 John M. 1 1849 Once in awhile I notice an unexplained difference in ages - but I have been told that even a neighbor could have given out the information in absence of homeowner - and been wrong. But ALL of these kids are way off - yet the parents ages are OK. Any input on this dilema? Gail Hahn Hutchcraft ladybug@arends-sons.com

    3. I just read the WHOLE THING. One thing I have learned from reading census' - do not depend on the Index for "gospel" I find many families on the census not listed in index - whether it be poor writing or spelling, they jump out at you when you see the whole family listed. Some more families that I found - for whoever need this info: William C. Davis 45 M farmer b. KY Mary 38 KY John 18 IL Susan 16 IL Nancy 14 IL William 11 IL - (this is Wm. Davis that married Sarah Elizabeth Hayter in 1860, parents of Edith M. Davis) Sarah 2 IL Sidney Deerfield 9 M b. Il Elizabeth Deerfield 7 F b. Il Abner? Deerfield 5 M b. Il. (can anyone ID the Deerfield's in relation to this Davis family?) Gail Hahn Hutchcraft ladybug@arends-sons.com

    1. [ILHAMILT-L] Fidelas Francis DURBIN
    2. Mary Loher
    3. Hello, I'm new to your list and wondered if someone could assist me. I'm trying to uncover information on my Great Uncle, Fidelas Francis DURBIN - or his name may have been Francis Fidelas (sp?)DURBIN. Here is the info I have to date: Fidelis/Fidelas F. (Dale) DURBIN b. Feb 1895 (according to the 1900 census) Dahlgren, IL? Also d. there I think. Son of Pius Anselm DURBIN and Teresa BURTLE I understand he married and may have had several children that died young. Questions: 1. What was his "real" name? 2. When did he die and what was the cause? 3. Who did he marry and when/where? 4. Any information on the children - especially cause of death. Some of the information I have (notes without proof) say that Dale had epilepsy. Also that he had two children that died young of seizure related deaths. Since my daughter also has epilepsy, we are trying to track all evidence through our family tree. I would greatly appreciate assistance and would be glad to reimburse someone for copies/postage and a modest research fee. If a research fee is appropriate, please contact me (before researching.) Also, if anyone has information on Fr. Elisha DURBIN or Fr. Bonaventure - could you please contact me? I have a lot of info on Fr. Elisha DURBIN but am seeking pictures of both and have only very poor quality ones of Fr. Elisha and none of Fr. Bonaventure. One last item, I assisted Mr. Robert Ross DURBIN write and publish his book, "A Durbin Heritage." If there is a library or genealogical group in the Dahlgren, IL area and if they would like a copy, I would be happy to forward a complimentary copy. I just need a name/address to forward same. Sincerely, Mary Ferguson Loher mloher@attbi.com

    2. Trev
    3. Dennis has done a pretty good job with this "county place names" site for southeast IL counties. The first time I got this I thought it was a spam mail:-) Scroll down to the county your looking for and it will give place names and PO and dates and former names and in some cases who it was named for. I saw a couple surprises and a couple of questions. One was Eldorado use to be Eldoredo, named for the Elder and Reed families...didn't know that. Another said that Tate Twp used to be called Hull Twp (is this suppose to be Hall???), I have never heard of this. I always thought Tate was Galatia Pct before it was Tate....anybody know about this??? http://hometown.aol.com/dennisvcarter1/myhomepage/heritage.html Best Regards, Trev
