    1. Re: [ILHAMILT-L] Re:Moses and Nancy Bond
    2. Dianna, I am going to send this to the list in case someone would like to jump right in and add or correct. As to Moses Bond and Mary Hale, in answer to your first question, the marriage bond didn't have even a clue as to their parents. It only mentioned Moses' guardian, not by name. However, August 5 1847 Moses' brother-in-law, Anderson Daily, was appointed the guardian of Moses who was thirteen at that time. Even tho Moses' mother was still alive, this was not unusual. Remember, this was at the time when daughters were not awarded their inheritance - it went to there husband, and if a widow wanted guardianship of her children, she had to petition the court. In the September term of 1855 it was recorded that, having reached the age of 21, Moses received his $70.00 from Anderson Daily. The only other record I found of Moses was in the Hamilton County Personal Property Tax list of 1858. He was listed in the Town Precinct (McLeansboro probably) as were his brothers John and Samuel, also Anderson, Vincent and Mastin Daily plus Lofton Echols - families that pay together? :-) Couldn't resist that. Some Bond researchers have that Moses died in 1893, but I doubt that it was Mastin's son Moses. I think rather it was Moses, son of Samuel Riley and Malissa (Bowers) Bond. The newspaper reported Moses as being "a young farmer", and at the age of 59, with the short life expectancy of the late 1800's, I doubt Mastin's son Moses would be referred to as "young". I did not find Moses and Mary in the 1860 or 1870 census of Illinois. Missouri or Arkansas. Since this is longer than I intended, I will send what I have for Dillard and Nancy (Bond) Haile later. 2. It has come to my attention that Ancestery.com has, without my knowledge, and certainly without my consent, PIRATED the Bond/Lowry file that I have been maintaining, with a lot of help from my friends. Although I am listed as the contact for this file, I will not under any circumstances accept that responsibility. For one thing, I have not, nor will I ever willingly pay to see/use data that is available elsewhere free and correct. The second reason that I will not participate is the group chart for Mastin Bond alone, a copy of which Gail Hutchcraft sent to me, contained five additions/changes that I do not agree are all correct - even the spelling of Mastin's name was changed to "Maston". If anyone is interested in seeing the updated and maintained Bond/Lowry data, my web page can be accessed at http://members.aol.com/leotaphyls Phyllis leotaphyls@aol.com or mygenlists@aol.com

    2. Sheila Cadwalader
    3. Kate, The Reeders in Hamiton County have a relationship to the Benbrook line. William C Reeder was born 1791-1795 in Kentucky, he was a son of Joel (Sr) & Rebecca Reeder. William C Reeder married Lucy Benbrook in Warren County, Kentucky on 12 Jul 1817. There is a South Carolina connection however, Thomas Milton Reeder's Will recorded on 27 Frb 1840 in Picken District, SC, mentions his half-brother, Joel Reeder. This is all the info I have, but Pickens District may give you a clue for a location in SC. 3. Hi List, responding to some recent mention of various Reeders. Does anyone know if there was a Jane Reeder? I am looking for a Jane born SC about 1825. This Jane married my ancestor Josiah Dobbs, Jr. and they lived in Jefferson Co. but I haven't found a marriage record yet. (Jos. Jr. was son of Josiah Dobbs, Sr. and his first wife, name unknown but possibly Blanton, who migrated to Hamilton Co. before 1827 from NC/SC and TN, and who moved to Wayne Co. about 1836.) I think Josiah Jr. and Jane married in 1848 or 1849, and I think she probably died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. My ancestor William Dobbs was born 1851, and in 1853 Josiah married again, to Elizabeth Jane Webber. The only people I've seen in the 1850 Jeff Co. census who were born SC were Reeders and I'm wondering if they are connected to the Ham Co. Reeders and if so perhaps I could get a straw to grasp regarding Jane. I'd appreciate any information or suggestions. Kate Dobbs Ariail

    1. [ILHAMILT-L] re: 1850 census for Tabitha Bond
    2. I meant to send this back to the list in case anyone else was interested, somehow I didn't. Following my reply is part of the original message from Gail. Gail, You skipped one person in Tabitha's household in the 1850 census, her son-in-law William Reeder. He and his family were living with Tabitha (not the other way around, she was listed as head of household). Moses Bond was Tabitha's son. Except for Lucy, the other children were those of William and Sarah (Bond) Reeder. Lucy may have also been the daughter of Sarah and William, her age 7 rather than 17 as it seemed to be in the census. Sarah (Bond) Reeder, daughter of Mastin and Tabitha, died, according to the 1860 census mortality schedule, by June of 1860 of typhoid fever, as did her daughter, Tabitha. Sarah's stone in Blooming Grove Cemetery gives her death as 1859. William Reeder married again and fathered more children. He can be found in the 1860 federal census of White County, Illinois. I didn't track him any farther than that. It appears Tabitha (Ward) Bond, widow of Mastin Bond, died after October, 1853, when, according to a history of Blooming Grove Church by Doris Trotter, Tabitha Bond donated $2.00 toward the cost of a new church building. Might I also add for those on the list, Lucy was not a daughter of Mastin and Tabitha Bond as some have reported. She did not appear as an heir in the distributation of Mastin's estate (1847/1848) , nor on the deeds for the sale of his real estate (1851/1853). NOW, in the 1850 Hamilton County Census I find the following: Mastin Bond - not listed, he died in 1847 Tabitha Bond age 58 b. abt 1792 - this is OK (children - please note the great difference) Moses age 16 (birthdate would be abt 1834) Sarah A. 14 1836 Lucy J 17 1833 Tabitha E. 5 1845 Elizabeth 4 1846 Samuel R. 2 1848 John M. 1 1849 Once in awhile I notice an unexplained difference in ages - but I have been told that even a neighbor could have given out the information in absence of homeowner - and been wrong. But ALL of these kids are way off - yet the parents ages are OK. Any input on this dilema? Gail

    3. Yes, I think you are correct. Sarah Bond married William C Reeder on 03 Feb 1842. Sarah was between 15 and 20 years of age in the 1840 census...so logically she would have been 25-30 years in the 1850 census. According to my 1850 census book it appears that Tabitha Bond and her youngest son, Moses, are living with William C & Sarah Bond Reeder. The children listed appear to be Tabitha E, Elizabeth A, Samuel R and John M Reeder. Lucy J age 17 is a mystery but could be a younger sister of William's. Tabitha Bond possibly died between 1850 and 1851....Moses Bond's marriage consent on 29 Oct 1851 says "orphan, consent by guardian." GeeMaw32@aol.com wrote: > Sheila, isn't Tabiltha Bond listed with William C. Reeder family? 3. As I was saying ...this Samuel Riley Bond is a grandson of Tabitha and Mastin Bond.........he's the one listed with his grandmother in the 1850 census. SAM BOND OF EQUALITY DIED WEDNESDAY MORNING Samuel R. Bond, who was nearing his 8th milestone, passed away Wednesday at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Viola Bond, in Equality with whom he has made his home for the past several years. Death was due to general infirmities of age. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of the children. Mr. Bond was born October 10, 1851, at McLeansboro where he resided until 1885, when he came to Equality in Gallatin County to make his home. Mr. Bond engaged in the mining industry at Equality until his age prevented active work. Surviving the decedent are five children: Daniel of Elgin, Robert of Gideon, Mo., Emmett of Chakey (Chaffee), Mo. Mrs. Ethel Evans of Elgin and Mrs. Lydia Prentice of Rockford, his wife having preceded him in death several years ago. Numerous friends and other relatives also mourn his departure. Note:Samuel Riley Bond was the grandson of Mastin Bond and the son of Richard Wade and Lidda (Lydia) Johnson Bond of Hamilton County, IL.
