This is from the Gholson Cemetery list: WILSON, REUBEN A. 1-10-1813 - 7-1-1880 WILSON, LOUCINDA A. 10-25-1842 - 7- 22-1920 This is from Legacy of Kin: WILSON, Reuben: Dahlgren Echo, 11 Jul 1921; aged about 80 years; died 10 July 1912, Dahlgren. Civil War veteran. Interred at Middle Creek Cemetery I am trying to find my gggrandmother and gggrandfather in Hamilton County.. still but posting again. This Reuben I am chasing was born in Overton County TN in about 1842 and married who I have a name of Amelia LEA born in Overton County TN about 1842. Every census I find her on she has a different name. I last found them on the 1880 Hamilton County census.. then they seem to be lost. Does anyone have information on the three Wilson's list at the top? The one listed as Reuben A would be a great match except for the birth date. Thanks for any feedback on this as I am not able to get these folks buried or find any of their decendents. Gale Prince Nash
This url came through on another list I thought perhaps it might be of interst to this list. http://www.wdbj.net/~tnknox/tnbaptists/index.html#P Gale Prince Nash

Darlene, No, the gangster Carl Shelton is not the same person as the genealogist, who is still living in Carmi. If there is any family relationship it was quite distant. Carl has spent a good deal of time with a son in Seattle. Kent, Thanks for sending the information contained in the Numident Query Response printout from SSDI. I wondered what information would be contained in the report for $16.00. It would seem that the only additional info that is received for the $27.00 fee is the signature of the applicant and place of employment. Take care, Evalyn -
Hello, I would like information on the following person(s) in 1880. Charles FRAZIER married Nancy Jane TROUT 11 May 1864 in Hamilton County. They appear in the 1870 census as a family with two children - Henry and Mary. Later, a child named Hannah FRAZIER was born into the household and I have conflicting information about her date of birth. I know that Nancy Jane divorced Charles at some point, so she may not be living with him in 1880. Query: Can you please find Hannah FRAZIER in the 1880 census and let me know what family she is living with and her age, etc. Thanks a million and let me know if I can help you with any Franklin County lookups... Most who refer to the bottoms are talking about the Haw Creek bottoms in the northeast part of Hamilton County. Although this area is now drained and used for farming, the area was covered by woods and water until the 50's. Before it was cleared, hunters were known to get lost in the area, and others who knew the area would have to rescue them. In the fall, ducks were very thick in the bottoms.
Marriage lookups: Did George Hayter b. abt 1826 husband of Mary Donley also have a second wife, Polly Ann unknown? George Hayter wed Mary Donley when/where George Hayter wed? Polly Ann? (wife's name in 1860 census) ladybug@arends-sons.com
With regard to the posting on Skillet Bowl, perhaps this is in reference to Skillet Fork? The Skillet Fork is a small river that runs through the northeast part of Hamilton County. The "bottoms" that I am aware of are near Springerton in that same area, just east/northeast of Beaver Creek. The Beaver Creek School is nearest Blairsville, and is now a K-6th grade school named, as I recall, for a creek that runs in the Blairsville area. If you start at the county seat of McLeansboro, look toward the northeast corner of Hamilton County and work back south and west, mainly west, to see these areas. Springerton is closer to the "bottoms". Hope this helps someone. Kent J. kentndeb@onemain.com
Can anyone tell me the whereabouts of an area called "Skillet Bowl Bottom"? My grandmother referred to this as the area her Jordan grandparents came from. Presumably this is in northwestern Hamilton or southeastern Jefferson County. Not an auspicious-sounding place, at least from the name. I have heard they lived in an area so low that it flooded occasionally and they had to leave the house for awhile each time.
