Wicks, 76, of Peoria passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 27, 1932, the son of Melvin and Louise Menzer Wicks. He married Virginia Elliott on Nov. 20, 1955, in McLeansboro, Ill. He later married Marcia Weber on Dec. 14, 1979, in Rock Island, Ill. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Vicki Goyette (wife of Greg) of LeClaire, Iowa, Susan Wicks (wife of Terry Taylor) of Elizabeth, Colo., Richard Todd Wicks (husband of Lisa) of Spencer, Iowa, and Kathy Andrews of Kerrville, Texas. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Andrea Neilson of East Dundee, Ill., and Chris Weber of San Antonio, Texas; as well as four stepgrandchildren. He was a U.S. veteran who served as a battalion clerk during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, earning a master's degree in teaching and specializing in agronomy and soil science. He also was a landlord in the Peoria area. He worked for Morton Buildings for 18 years. Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the First Assembly of God Church, 4020 N. Brandywine Drive in Peoria, with the Rev. Dean Grabel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in his name to Hospice Compassus. Maxine (Lowery) Pendell, 85, of McLeansboro, passed away at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried and the Rev. Mark Byars officiating.Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 at the funeral home.Interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.She was born May 29, 1924, in McLeansboro, the daughter of Earl "Cotton" and Edna E. (Hooker) Lowery. She married Carl Albert Pendell on Nov. 28, 1944, in McLeansboro and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1982.Mrs. Pendell was a secretary for the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro for 19 years. She was a cook at East Side Grade School for 10 years, a deputy county clerk for Hamilton County and she also worked for the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in McLeansboro.Mrs. Pendell was the first female real estate agent in Hamilton County. She was a 50-year member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Rebekah Lodge in McLeansboro, a member of the Daughters of the Nile and a bowler with the Hamilton County Queen Pins for 15 years. She played piano at the Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center for 19 years and also played the piano for the Praise Singers and the Sweet Spirits Four. She was a house mother at the Unwed Mothers Home in Carmi for two years and Mrs. Pendell did not miss a Foxes basketball game in 15 years.She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Sue Yesley and husband Richard of New Athens; two sons, Carl Pendell and wife Geri of Chester, Va. and Charles "Super Fox" Pendell of McLeansboro; a sister, Judy Malle and husband Joe of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Katie Cole and husband Billy of Tampa, Fla., Kerry Simmons and husband Steve and Colin Pendell, all of Charlotte, N.C., Kristina Yesley of Seattle, Wash., and James and Jennifer Yesley, both of New Athens; three great-grandchildren, Jaiden Six and Cameron and Marcy Kate Simmons; and a step-mother, Imogene Lowery of McLeansboro. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parnets; her husband; a sister, Helen Gene Adams; an infant brother, Bobby; and an aunt, Lora Lowery Patterson.Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home. Edna M. Stitch, 88, of Granite City, passed away at 6:30 p.m. July 24, 2009, at Edwardsville.She was born on Aug. 26, 1921, in Wayne County, a daughter of Virgil and Grace (Scrivner) Buchanan. She married Frederick B. Stitch on Oct. 27, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2008. He was born Sept. 13, 1938 in Dahlgren, the son of John Alvin and Mary Alice (Knapp) Moore. He was an examiner for the Illinois driver's license station in Carmi. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Hadi Shrine. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Timothy Proctor of Hollywood, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tammy Moore of Cape Coral, Fla.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Gail Moore. There will be no funeral service or visitation. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Betty, Thanks for writting. I have found two names for his wife. I don't know if one name could be the first name and the other a second. I have lots to learn about my Taylors. One name was Linda and the other was Juliana. In the 1865 census, it listed the area where they were. I don't know if this will help. It said Township7 South, Range 7 East. I couldn't find them on the 1870 census. I did find a daughter in the family of my grandmother line and her husband and I found a brother's cemetery listing and he died in the Civil War, from the date.
