Tom Wilson: In response to your query about Zopher Johnson's. Zopher Alexander Johnson was b. 1845 and died in 1887. He was the son of Christopher Cooper Johnson(b. 1821 Greene Co., TN; d. 27 Nov. 1862, Memphis, Tn). and (K)(C) atherine Kerbaugh. I do not have any record of Zopher Alexander marrying a Carney. But in Harrelson's "Hamilton Co. Marriages," p. 134 he has Zopher marrying Sarah Ann Boster 23 Feb. 1864 by minister Hosea Vise. The children of Zopher Alexander and Sarah Ann Boster were: Clarence Edger Johnson, b. 2 May 1875; Riley Alexander Johnson, b. July 1874; Rev. Albert Johnson, b. 24 April 1877; and Elmer Elsworth Johnson, b. 6 May 1882. To assist you on your line in case you don't already have it. Zopher Alexander was a son of Zopher Johnson, Jr. b. 15 Oct. 1790, Greenville, Greene Co., TN, and d. 6 Dec 1866, Macedonia, Hamilton Co., IL. Zopher, Jr. mar. Phebe Cooper who was b. 5 April 1790 in VA and d. 6 June 1862, Ham. Co., IL. Zopher, Jr. was a son of Rev. Soldier, Zopher Johnson, Sr., b. 1754, Delaware River, PA and d. 1839, Greene Co., TX and wife who may have been a Henderson(b. 13 Sept 1753, d. 22 May 1834, Greene Co., TN). Most researchers do not have this "gem" that I received from Stevie Hughes in 2002: Zopher Johnson, Sr. was a son of "Zopher Johnson The Elder." He is in the 1730 Tax List of Philadelphia Co., PA with a notation "Settled ten years." In 1782 he is in Frederick Co., VA. He d. in Greene Co., TN in 1809. To add to your Zopher identifications: Zopher Johnson, b. 1858 mar. Lydia Mary Benson and Mary Emma Boswell was the son of Dr. John Henderson Johnson, 1829-1919 and Sarah Jane Graham Zopher Johnson who mar. Phoebe Brown Cooper was Zopher Johnson, Jr. the son of Zopher Johnson, Sr. who was b. 1754 in Delaware River, PA and d. 1839, Greene Co., TN. Phoebe was the dau. of Christopher C. Cooper(b. 1760-1770) and Jane Brown. The Zopher Johnson who mar. Sarah Ann Boster was Zopher Alexander Johnson, son of Christopher Cooper Johnson and Katherine Kerbaugh. What most researchers do not have is a nugget I received from Stevie Hughes in 2002. Zopher Johnson, Sr. was the son of "Zopher Johnson, the Elder." He is listed in the 1730 Tax List of Philadelphia Co., PA, with a notation "settled ten years." In 1782 he is in Frederick Co., VA. He died in Greene Co., TN in 1809. Bill - Your JOHNSON line may be connected to one of my lines...the connection I have is "in pencil", but here goes... I have Sarah Ann BOSTER married to Zopher Alexander JOHNSON (son of Christopher and Katherine (KERBAUGH) JOHNSON in 1864 in HCI.? One son that I know of:? Clarence Edward JOHNSON (1875-1937).? In the tale of conflicting sources, I also have tripped on a claim that Z.A. married a CARNEY (not Sarah Ann BOSTER).? If you could straighten that?conflicting claim out for me, we may be connected. Sarah Ann BOSTER is a daughter of Andrew Jackson and Rebecca (CLARK) BOSTER.? My GIBBS line?is linked to Andrew Jackson BOSTER'S second marriage to Katherine SCRIVNER and their son James Smith BOSTER (1858-1938)...who married Sarah Elizabeth GIBBS of HCI in 1876. I do have the JOHNSON / JOHNSTON line you outlined back to Zopher Sr. (Rev. War), but again, for now, it is all in pencil.? How far off base am I with this BOSTER - JOHNSON connection? - Tom Wilson ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Dupree" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 17, 2009 4:28 PM Subject: Re: [ILHAMILT] Early Johnson's of Hamilton Co., Illinois > Ladybug: > >???? Ladybug: Your question of what Johnson lines are in my 600 page "Early Johnson's of Hamilton County, IL?" Since they are more difficult for researchers to find, I tried to give emphasis on the earliest Johnson records and families. Almost all my material is pre-1900. It includes detailed generations for the three earliest Johnson's in Hamilton Co.: Rev. Soldier John Johnson (1763-1853)(a large portion of the book) Isaac Johnson, Sr.(1760/1780-abt. 1845). William Johnson, Sr.(1765/1770-1842). It also includes generations that settled in Hamilton Co. from the family of Rev. Sol. Zopher Johnson, Sr. of Greene Co., TN. These Johnson's did not come until about 1850, much later than the other three listed above. They settled on the Franklin Co. line at Macedonia. In addition there are generations of Rufus Johnson(1779-1843) who came from New York state to Posey Co., IN. Since there were so many early Johnson's in Hamilton Co. I feel this book is a major contribution to genealogical research for the county. I tried to document all my material where it was at all possible. And I am indebted to countless persons for sharing their material generously with me, for which I am very grateful. A copy of my book is in each of the genealogical libraries of our section of southern Illinois, was well as the State Archives and the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City. Happy Hunting, Rev.
