Vernon.She was born in Hamilton County on July 9, 1945, a daughter of Charles and Frieda (Erkman) Gunter. She married David L. Johnson on July 28, 1963, and he survives. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and was a homemaker.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dahlgren Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Sefried, Billy Duncan and Chuck McCormick officiating. Vernon, Illinois. He was born on Wednesday, June 25, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of the late James A. and Ruth E. (Donoho) Scott. He married Norma Ermaline Tate on October 21, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on September 14, 1987. Surviving family members include his 2 Daughters: Venus Scott-Sadler and husband Andrew of McLeansboro, Illinois and Sharlet Flora of Annapolis, Maryland; 2 Sisters: Betty Heath of Sun City, Arizona and Ruby Gowler of Fairfield, Illinois; 9 Grandchildren: Don and Michelle Lewis of O'Fallon, Missouri, Cline Lewis and Angie of Ocala, Florida, Alan Scott and Katherine of Brentwood, California, Eric Scott and Amy of St. Peters, Missouri, Zane Scott, II of Kansas City, Missouri, David Scott of Kansas City, Missouri, Heather Scott of Bowling Green, Missouri, Kirk and Tara Flora of Eagle Mountain, Utah and Kane and Amy Flora of Front Royale, Virginia; Daughter-in-law: Mary Scott of Bowling Green, Missouri; Brother-in-law: Jim Sallee of Sesser, Illinois; Sixteen Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Vernon prior to his enlistment into the U.S. Navy in 1940. One year later he was a Quartermaster stationed aboard the U.S.S. Maryland (BB46) while moored in Battleship Row along the southwest shore of Ford Island during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was also a survivor of the D-Day Invasion and was involved in the European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic Pacific theaters of operation. Following the conclusion of his naval service in 1946, he was employed at McDonnell-Douglas Corporation in St. Louis as a tool and model builder and planning engineer. John was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1671 in McLeansboro FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Chuck Ellis will officiate. INTERMENT: New Home Lowery Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois.
