    3. Geraldine "Jerry" Engel, 82, McLeansboro, passed away 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro. Mrs. Engel was a beautician. She was born April 28, 1927, in Dahlgren, daughter of Herman and Nancy (Sneed) Marsh. She was raised as the daughter of Vern and Nancy (Sneed) Auxier. She married John Engel on April 28, 1951, at St. Clement's Catholic Church, McLeansboro; he survives. Her funeral was Tuesday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro; Monsignor Joseph Lawler and the Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was at St. Clement's Catholic Cemetery, McLeansboro. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Jetta Karcher of McLeansboro; grandsons Ryan Karcher and wife Lorna of Fairview Heights and Jeffrey Karcher and wife Nicole of McLeansboro; granddaughter Juliana Karcher of McLeansboro; and great-grandchildren Elayna, Layton and Kaelee Karcher. Mrs. Engel attended St. Clement's Catholic Church, McLeansboro. Her activities included caring for members of the community, volunteering for a number of groups - including Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxilliary, McLeansboro Women's Club and Crisis Closet - and just any other time she could help anyone. She was preceded in death by her parents; two stepfathers, Vern Auxier and Bill Widick; and son-in-law Rod Karcher. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, was in charge of all arrangements.

    3. In Journal Star of Peoria, Illinois on Feb. 21, 2010 ( photo included) LUCILLE (BOND) MYERS *PEORIA *- Lucille F. (Bond) Myers of Pinehurst, N.C., formerly of Peoria, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2010. She went to be with her Lord. She was born at home in Hamilton County, Ill., to Arthur C. and Eliza B. (Wageneck ) Bond on Dec. 2, 1913. Lucille married Thomas E. Myers in Carmi, Ill., and moved to Peoria, where she lived for 67 years. She moved to The Carolina House in Pinehurst, N.C., in 2001, and lived at Kingswood for three months. She was a homemaker and was very active in the First Methodist Church until her move. Lucille enjoyed most sports on TV, particularly the St. Louis Cardinals and the Bradley Braves basketball team. While living in North Carolina, she attended Pinehurst United Methodist Church and participated in the Knitting Group and was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. Lucille is survived by her daughters, Dita and husband, Ron McGaughey, of West End, N.C., and Nita Randolph of Huntington Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, Joel McGaughey, Ronalee Tefft, Todd Randolph and Shari Stone; six great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jacob McGaughey, Caitlin Tefft, Danielle Simmons, and Jenna and Nicholas Randolph; five nieces, Eloise Sauers of Peoria, Ill., Brenda Cullins of Wauchula, Fla., Linda VanWinkle, Jackie (Bond) Frey and Joan (Bond) Cox, all of McLeansboro, Ill.; one nephew, Kenneth Bond of Tempe, Ariz.; and one great-niece, Shirley Moss of McLeansboro, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Eliza Bond; husband, Thomas; brothers, Cecil M. and Ernie D. Bond; one nephew, Billy Bond; and one son-in-Law, Jack Randolph. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club or a charity of your choice in her name. Memorial services will held at a later date at Pinehurst United Methodist Church under the direction of Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst, N.C. Services will be held at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 27, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 27, 2010. The Kaskaskias were forced westward to the Big Muddy when the slaughter continued until the Kaskaskias were all killed or captured. This is sometimes called the battle of Battle Creek, The spot is at the crossing of the Big Muddy river by the road from the town of Frankfort, in Franklin county, to DuQuoin, in Perry county. In after years the Kaskaskias remained on a reservation on the lower Big Muddy, whence they removed to the Indian Territory.     3. H. Lee Heard, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and formerly of Dahlgren, Illinois passed away at 9:40 P.M. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Heard was born on Saturday, March 15, 1924 in Hamilton County, Illinois the son of the late Charlie and Mamie (Seng) Heard. He married D'Etta Cox on November 8, 1947 in Morganfield, Kentucky. Surviving family members include his Wife of 62 years: D'Etta Heard of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 Daughters: Aleea Brewer and husband Carl of Port Orford, Oregon and Kela Campbell and husband Ron of Atlanta, Georgia; 2 Grandsons: Lt. Joseph Lee Campbell, U.S.N. and wife Melanie of Bremerton, Washington and Robert J. Campbell and wife Claire of Alpharetta, Georgia; 2 Great Grandchildren: Anna and Hayden Campbell of Bremerton, Washington. His parents, one infant son: Samuel Lee and one brother: Evan Heard preceded him in death. Lee served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a molder for Autolite Corporation and later was an over-the-road truck driver for Spector Freight System, Inc. and was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 in Christian Chapel Church in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Ruby McDowell and the Rev. Harol Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 in the church. Memorials may be made to the Children of Bradley Johnson and will be accepted at the church. He loved his work, fishing and was an avid reader.

Willis, 75, of Kevil, Ky., formerly of McLeansboro, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the Allen House in Atlantic, Iowa.She was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Hamilton County, a daughter of William "Bill" and Julia (Harrelson) Mitchell. She married James Raymond Hunter, who preceded her in death, and she later married Russell Willis, who preceded her in death.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Robert Sefried and Ted Mitchell officiating.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.Interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.Vada is survived by a son, Alan Hunter and wife Karen of Lewis, Iowa; three grandchildren, Wendy Hunter of Plymouth, Neb., Shane Bruns of San Diego, Calif. and Charles Bruns of Lavista, Neb.; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Savanna Bruns, Josie Piper and Anthony and Alex Vo; five brothers, William H.     3. Clyde W. Summers, 84, of McLeansboro, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at his residence.He was born in Dale on May 15, 1925, a son of Lealon R. and Mabel (Mann) Summers. He married Doris Hammontree on Oct. 11, 1945, in McLeansboro, and she preceded him in death. Clyde taught in several one room schools in Hamilton County. He was principal at Dahlgren and also taught at Flannigan School. He loved farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a past member of McLeansboro VFW. He attended Little Springs Church and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Burial will follow at Little Springs Cemetery, west of Dale. She married Frederick "Joe" Glassford on Nov. 28, 1964, in Danville. Sandy taught at McLeansboro High School since 1974 and was involved in the Success Program. SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - Kennette Ann Meredith, daughter of the late Kenneth Dean Willmore and Donniemay Price Willmore, was born Aug. 5, 1959 in St. Louis, and departed this life Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at the at the age of 50 years. Kennette was a former truck driver for J.B. Hunt trucking, had her CDL license, an avid supporter of our U.S. Military and a resident of Dexter. She had a GED and took a few courses at John A. Logan College. Survivors include two daughters, Cassandra Lee Meredith of Kennett, Mo. and Julieanna May Meredith of Dexter; paternal grandmother, Elberta Willmore of Galatia; two sisters, Wilma Willmore of Herrin and Janice Russel of Broughton; one brother, Kenneth Willmore Jr. of Johnston City; six grandchildren, Devon Slayton of Canalou, Mo., Aiden Lopez of Dexter, Chaz Autry of Senath, Mo. and Hailie Fuller, Makayla Carnell and Cameron Carnell, all of Kennett, Mo.; two nephews, Robert Raudenbushof Broughton and Christopher Lopez, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and three nieces, Rachelle Coleman of Dexter, Kendra Willmore of Johnston City and Jennifer Pruitt of Broughton.
