Hi All: I am interested in finding (among others) all I can about my northern Italian ancestors - many of whom moved from Torino, Reed Township, Will County to Coal City. My great-grandparents, Ignazio Valeriano (changed to George Ignatius Valerio) and Ida Fenoglio-Gaddo moved in 1920. They ran a saloon called the Alhambra in Torino. Apparently it didn't have a name when they moved it to Coal City (according to my aunt). Other related families I am researching are the following: Perona, Enrietto, Marsaglia, Corsini, Burla, Gomora, Pomatto, Danzero, Delorenzo, Gianetti (or Gunetti?). Would love to hear from anyone researching the same or anyone researching Italian families in Illinois since I receive info on others in the process of my research - examples: bios, death certs, marriage licenses, indexes, etc of Peronas who are not directly related to mine, ditto with Gomora and some of the other families. Also I have a copy of the death certificate of my grandfather's oldest brother, William Joseph Valerio. He died of meningitis after receiving a blow on the head from a falling clutch shoe at the Moore Stove Works in Joliet in 1925. His wife's name was Josephine Craterfield. I have found no other reference to this surname. Were there any other Craterfields either in Will or Grundy county? Anyone know? I'm wondering if we are reading this surname correctly. I also subscribe to Will, DuPage, Kane and Kendall county, Illinois rootswebs so responses can be left there as well if they are more appropriate to those lists.
