One of the men who has done this is Thomas Wilbur Walker, who is operating 215 acres of land in Mazon Township. He was born in this county in 1859, and after attending the local schools, began farming for himself, and now raises corn and oats and feeds and ships stock to the market. In 1879 Mr. Walker was married to Martha Preston, and they had a daughter, Maud Ely. Mrs. Walker died eleven months after marriage. In 1887 Mr. Walker married (second) Florence Beckworth, born in Will County, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Walker became the parents of two children: Albert G. and Helen, both of whom are at home. Politically Mr. Walker is a Republican, and has been School Treasurer of Mazon Township for four years, and a School Director for the same length of time. The Congregational Church holds his membership. His fraternal relations are with the Modern Woodmen of America and the Royal Neighbors. A man who faithfully endeavors to conscientiously perform the duties which lie nearest to hand, he has made a position for himself in his community and holds the universal respect of those with whom he is associated.
