On August 25 I visited the Coal City Public Library to do genealogy research. I was there when it opened at 9am and didn't leave (even for a lunch break) until almost closing time (8pm). I wanted to get as much info as I could as my time was limited. I used the following sources: The Italian Cemetery of Coal City, Catalogue # GR 929.5 ITA, Research by Gene Bianchetta, Property of Will/Grundy County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 24, Wilmington, IL 60481 Death Index for Will County, IL, (5 December 1877 Through 31 December 1915), Compiled by Shirline Skuban, Assisted by Nancy B. Grilly, For the Will-Grundy County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 24, Wilmington, IL 60481-0024. This is in 2 books and 3 volumes. The first 2 volumes are in Book 1 and the last volume constitutes the entirety of Book 2. The volumes are arranged as follows: Part One (5 December 1877 Through 31 December 1896), Part Two (1 January 1897 Through 31 December 1906), Part Three (1 January 1907 Through 31 December 1915) The library has a collection of microfilmed obituaries and birth and wedding announcements from the Coal City Courant and these have been catalogued - some very carefully by hand on legal pads. I also used these catalogued lists for my research. I attempted to record as much information as possible (considering the time factor) on each of the surnames for my own research. Some (e.g. Anderson, Smith) had entries which covered almost an entire page in the Death Index so I merely made notes that they did so or attempted to list only the names and years of death should there be something that later might make a connection for me. These are the surnames I researched: Anderson, Barnes, Bebar, Bombassaro, Burla, Clemens, Corsini, Craterfield, Danzero, DeLorenzo/DiLorenzo, Egizio, Enrietta/Enrietto, Fenoglio, Fenoglio-Gaddo, Fleener, Gaddo, Giovannini, Giovanetti, Gomora, Haller, Harmon, Hartman(n), Herman, Jackson, Kahler, Knowles, Kozuh, Lenzi(e), Macier, Marsaglia, Massey, Morin, Nahas, Perona, Pomatto, Rosso, Smith, Sparks, Stybr, Tonelli, Valeriano/Valerio, Vallero, Wagner and Watson. A few possible derivations caught my eye and I recorded info on them as well: Balleria (a misspelling of Valeria/Valerio?); Kratochvil (perhaps the original surname for Kraterfield which then became Craterfield?); Lorenzo (the same as DeLorenzo/DiLorenzo?), Morino (same as Morin?), Vinoglio (a misspelling for Fenoglio?). I didn't find information for all of these surnames but I did for most of them. I am willing to share info either on this board or in private emails. Info from the catalogued birth and wedding announcements will contain names of living individuals and I will only share those in private emails of course as I respect their privacy. I also perused the shelves and there is quite a collection of cemetery books for Will County, also the marriage index for that county. Using the resources I mentioned above took all of the time spent. So I didn't get a chance to really dig into the cemetery books or the marriage index. Maybe next time. I spoke to the librarians before I left and they suggested that I search for surnames on the Cemetery page of their website. They gave me a handy refrigerator magnet with their information so I won't forget. Here is the information on the magnet: Coal City Public Library District, 85 N.
