Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wg.2ADE/1652 Message Board Post: Looking for information on John Ahern, born Ireland about 1838. Married Margaret Walsh born Ireland about 1842 on May 5, 1864 Immaculate Conception Church by circuit riding priest, M. Lyons. In 1870 John was saloon keeper in Dwight, IL. In 1880 farmer Grundy County, IL, Goodfarm Township. Children Philip b. 1865, Erminie, b. 1867 (married Frank L. Smith and lived/died Dwight, IL), John b. 1870, Stephen b. 1872, Helen b. 1878, Bertie b. abt 1879 (male, not sure of proper name), Clinton b. 1881 (lived/died Dwight, IL married Emma Romberger), Gertrude b.1880 (married Walter Bracken), and Archibald b. 1882. Ahern family moved from Goodfarm Twp. sometime between 1880 and 1890? Lived Joliet, IL. Moved to Ogden, Utah around 1892-93. Erminie married Frank L. Smith in 1893 and lived in Dwight, IL. Ahern family, except for father John and possibly son Philip, returned to IL abt. 1897. Most of the family, except for father John and son John buried Mt. Olivet Cemetery near Dwight, IL. Smith's are buried Oak Lawn Cemetery near Dwight, IL. Don't know what happened to Helen. I believe John Ahern, Sr. may have been related to Matthew Ahern, who married Adaline Pitcher. He and Margaret Walsh Ahern were witnesses at their marriage and also sponsors to their son born about Nov. 4, 1872. Where would I find information about Ahern burials in Goodfarm Cemetery or other cemeteries in the area, probably Catholic cemeteries, and Grundy Co. private land sales for the Goodfarm Twp. farm?
