    3. Barry, The Grundy County Death Index can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~iltrico/grundydthinx.htm Deb -----Original Message----- From: FINCH64@aol.com [mailto:FINCH64@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2003 5:20 PM To: ILGRUNDY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILGRUNDY] Death index online? I spent hours going through the Will County Death Index (all pre-1916) at the Coal City Public Library. And now I'm reading that info may already be online! lol I thought I saw something to that effect somewhere in a post. Can anyone tell me if this death index is online and if the Grundy County Death Index (of any years) is online as well and where one could find these? If they are not available online then at least my research was not in vain. But if they are, then I can always go back and double check my information. FYI - The Will County Death Index (pre-1916) usually includes a listing for burial info for the person. Often the actual cemetery and it's location (municipality, township) is mentioned (even out-of-state burials). At the very least the location of the burial place (municipality, township) is mentioned. I didn't see all of the cemeteries transcribed in the books at the Coal City Public Library but alot of them are. Are any of these cemeteries transcribed anywhere online? I am particularly interested in the Catholic cemeteries - either in Will or Grundy County. FYI - I checked the Coal City Public Library website. I went to the Genealogy page and tried to use their cemetery search feature. Apparently only a small portion of one cemetery has been entered there as of yet. None of my surnames yielded any result except "No info found". Thanks for any advice on the death index and cemetery info. Surnames: Werner, Sehring, Gorich Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wg.2ADE/1550.3 Message Board Post: I have since found much additional information and corrected some erroneous information that I was working from. My breakthrough came when I made contact with a lady by the name of Dorothy Mundt of Green Valley, Arizona. She had been researching this Werner line (the parents) for many, many years. Jacob & Catherine's Parents were Johannes Werner born 15 Dec 1789 in Langen, Hesse-Darmstadt (now the State of Hesse), Germany and Catharina Margaretha Sehring born 16 Jun 1794 in Langen, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. Jacob's family bible said that he came to this country on 25 Jul 1847 but after obtaining the manifest from the National Archives I found it to be 26 Jul 1847 on the ship Anna Paulounia which arrived in New York Harbor. All this information and much, much more, going back to the 1600's, is available through the L.D.S. church where Dorothy obtained most of it. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

From what I have found there were about 8 siblings: James b. 27 Sept 1827; Robert (went to Idaho); William b. abt 1842; Malcolm b. 24 Feb 1846; John; Jean/Jane b. 5 Aug 1835; Margaret b. 15 Oct 1843; Ann. My mother was the Olympic Swimmer Martha Norelius. I have two older sisters, May in St. Louis, Mo. and Vallan in Baton Rouge, La. My mother was married to Joe Wright from Canada, the rowing champion. They had one daughter, Diane Wright Stewart. She married and had 6 children. Are you one of them? Then she married my father, Alanson Brown Jr., from St. Louis, where I was born. I am the youngest and live in Phoenix, AZ. My mothers parents were Vallan and Charles Norelius of West Palm Beach, Florida and West Virginia. I don't know much about their side of the family. I think Granny Vallan was an only child and I don't remember about Grandfather. They were from Stockholm, Sweden and came over to the US I think when mother was about 6 yrs. old. 1. [ILGRUNDY] Coal City Library
    2. Hi Barry! SO, you made it to my home town in CC! Are you from there also? The CC library is great for info, even more so since the WGGS, Will-Grundy Gen Soc. transferred their holdings from the Braidwood library. A few of those surnames I recognize as growing up as a kid ( I left in 1969 ), but I have been back to CC pretty much every yr since then, the last time in July of this yr. Interesting what you have to say about Kratochvil, I have never heard that before. Their not related to me, but married into the SWARTZ's. Ill ask my cousin to locate them and try to ask this question. She knows some Craterfield's too. There is also a Kratochvil castle in southern Bohemia, I think they were Nobles. I have a list of surnames that I am interested in, and appear AS Obits in the paper, CC Courant and have been wanting to post to the list for referance. It is a future project. I hope someday the library, or WGGS can get all the Obit surnames listed in one Index, there are dupe's now for sure, I have been thru them several times. Its a great Library I think, tho my elderly Aunt is nor fond of the Architecture! 1. [ILGRUNDY] Research at Coal City Public Library
    2. On August 25 I visited the Coal City Public Library to do genealogy research. I was there when it opened at 9am and didn't leave (even for a lunch break) until almost closing time (8pm). I wanted to get as much info as I could as my time was limited. I used the following sources: The Italian Cemetery of Coal City, Catalogue # GR 929.5 ITA, Research by Gene Bianchetta, Property of Will/Grundy County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 24, Wilmington, IL 60481 Death Index for Will County, IL, (5 December 1877 Through 31 December 1915), Compiled by Shirline Skuban, Assisted by Nancy B. Grilly, For the Will-Grundy County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 24, Wilmington, IL 60481-0024. This is in 2 books and 3 volumes. The first 2 volumes are in Book 1 and the last volume constitutes the entirety of Book 2. The volumes are arranged as follows: Part One (5 December 1877 Through 31 December 1896), Part Two (1 January 1897 Through 31 December 1906), Part Three (1 January 1907 Through 31 December 1915) The library has a collection of microfilmed obituaries and birth and wedding announcements from the Coal City Courant and these have been catalogued - some very carefully by hand on legal pads. I also used these catalogued lists for my research. I attempted to record as much information as possible (considering the time factor) on each of the surnames for my own research. Some (e.g. Anderson, Smith) had entries which covered almost an entire page in the Death Index so I merely made notes that they did so or attempted to list only the names and years of death should there be something that later might make a connection for me. These are the surnames I researched: Anderson, Barnes, Bebar, Bombassaro, Burla, Clemens, Corsini, Craterfield, Danzero, DeLorenzo/DiLorenzo, Egizio, Enrietta/Enrietto, Fenoglio, Fenoglio-Gaddo, Fleener, Gaddo, Giovannini, Giovanetti, Gomora, Haller, Harmon, Hartman(n), Herman, Jackson, Kahler, Knowles, Kozuh, Lenzi(e), Macier, Marsaglia, Massey, Morin, Nahas, Perona, Pomatto, Rosso, Smith, Sparks, Stybr, Tonelli, Valeriano/Valerio, Vallero, Wagner and Watson. A few possible derivations caught my eye and I recorded info on them as well: Balleria (a misspelling of Valeria/Valerio?); Kratochvil (perhaps the original surname for Kraterfield which then became Craterfield?); Lorenzo (the same as DeLorenzo/DiLorenzo?), Morino (same as Morin?), Vinoglio (a misspelling for Fenoglio?). I didn't find information for all of these surnames but I did for most of them. I am willing to share info either on this board or in private emails. Info from the catalogued birth and wedding announcements will contain names of living individuals and I will only share those in private emails of course as I respect their privacy. I also perused the shelves and there is quite a collection of cemetery books for Will County, also the marriage index for that county. Using the resources I mentioned above took all of the time spent. So I didn't get a chance to really dig into the cemetery books or the marriage index. Maybe next time. I spoke to the librarians before I left and they suggested that I search for surnames on the Cemetery page of their website. They gave me a handy refrigerator magnet with their information so I won't forget. Here is the information on the magnet: Coal City Public Library District, 85 N.
