Greetings!! Last weekend at an antique store in Morris, Grundy County, I ran across a photo postcard of a baby. This picture will be posted on Grundy website as soon as I scan and edit it in a photo image editor because it didn't scan very well. On the postcard side, the following is handwritten: My dear Cora, How are you? I am planning on visiting you this fall will write you particulars later on. This is my babys picture not very good! It was signed Elizabeth It was addressed to: Mrs. Cora Osman (or Osmon) Morris Ill If anyone happens to know who Elizabeth is or is related to Cora, please let me know. I will try to post the picture this weekend. I also have some pictures that Sherry has so graciously sent me to post this weekend on the website of her Grundy County family. Thanks Sherry!!!! I'm tracing my KELLAM ancestors from VT to Kendall Co IL (late 1840's) to Grundy Co IL in 1850's early 1860's, then to Christian Co IL where Amander KELLAM died in 1866. Owned the land & farmed near Morris.

Seeking info on Fred & Lillian V. (nee HARPHAM) SCHAUM, and issue. Lillian was the daughter of Samuel & Sarah HARPHAM, b. 13 Oct 1868, Gardner. Need marriage info, children's info, death records, etc. Writing a family history of the WELDON/HARPHAM families. Would love to correspond with fellow searcher or for lookup assistance. I am the ggg granddaughter of Samuel HARPHAM, IL Volunteer Infantry, 53rd Reg't., and gg granddaughter of Charles WELDON, the local hoteliers. My grandmother, Nellie Q. WELDON was born in Gardner, 13 May 1887. I had the pleasure of visiting the quiet little village last year and through the help of the local fire chief was able to find the family gravesites at the Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. I would very much like to correspond with others who can help flesh out some of the local history for the book I am working on. Especially I would like to find someone with access to old newspapers for the period. I would like to connect with the WHEELER descendants of George and Mary Elizabeth (nee WELDON) SMITH's daughter, Elma. My notes show both died 1 July 1914(?). It is possible that George's brother, Jonathan SMITH, also moved to Illlinois from Quebec with the WELDONs. Does anyone have access to census records for the area? >Drop a pebble in the water, and its ripples reach out far; >And the sunbeams dancing on them may reflect them to a star. >Give a smile to someone passing, thereby making his morning glad; >It may greet you in the evening when your own heart may be sad. >Do a deed of simple kindness; though its end you may not see, >It may reach, like widening ripples, down a long eternity.--Author Unknown
Hi! I am researching my husband's Galbraith family. I have so little info on this name, I am looking for any time frame. I am researching my family line CHALLY. My family line emigrated to the US from Norway around 1847. Some of my ancestors settled in Grundy Co., IL. If anyone is researching this family line or if someone has any information on this family line please write to me. My name is Gwen and would appreciate any information on this family line. Thank-you, Gwen Email address: [email protected]
Greetings to all Grundy County researchers, I am the new county coordinator for the Grundy County IL genealogical website. I have updated the county a little and am in the process of adding more information and material presently. I am working with Michele Houchens, Local History Clerk, of the Three Rivers Public Library, Minooka Branch. Michele has been wonderful. She is finding material that we can put on the website. I have quite a bit at home, but it will take some time for me to get in online. Michele has many resources available and will be offering lookups. I will add her list of lookup materials to the website as soon as I can. Please take advantage of her offer if you need a lookup. She is very thorough and knowledgeable of the Minooka area and other areas as well. If you have material to add to the website, please send it to me at: [email protected] I am looking for early settlers, birth, marriage, death, family bios, wills, military info, cemetery listings, and any info that you feel will be helpful to other researchers and may eventually lead to you making a connection with cousins. We are all here to help each other, so let's get some material posted on this website. :) I am currently working on the 1917 Farmer's and Breeder's Directory of Kendall and Grundy County which contains some really neat info on the farmers and their families (maiden name of wife, children's name, an automobile owner's directory, etc.). It will take me a while to get this info posted. If you would like a lookup for now, please email me and I will provide you with any info listed. To Gwen re: Chally, please give me a couple of days and I will send you the info in the book regarding Chally family. I did find three families listed in Kendall County. I do not have any birth, death or marriage material at this time. Michele has some of this information and it will be posted to the website. Thanks for your patience Gwen!! I found two queries on Haynes listed. If the Haynes researchers are currently on this mailing list, please contact me. I am personally researching Haines who were in Grundy County. I would like to know if there is any connection between the two families. Thanks!! Please post your queries or Grundy County questions on this mailing list so we can start exchanging information. If you have any suggestions, revisions, etc., please let me know or post it here. Does anyone live in or near Grundy County? I live in Will County about 8 miles from Grundy. If anyone is interested in contributing material, typing, etc., please let me know. All volunteer efforts are very welcome and appreciated by all of us!!!!!! I look forward to working with everyone researching Grundy County. We have many new opportunities awaiting us. By the way, if you send me a message and I don't respond for a couple of days, please send me a friendly reminder. Sometimes I get backlogged on email (when I am busy building webpages) and get behind on it. I will try to help as much as I can or send you in the right direction to find an answer!! Good luck to everyone with your family research!! Deb Haines ILGenWeb County Coordinator for Grundy County MSGenWeb Assistant State Coordinator MSGenWeb County Coordinator for Marshall
