    3. Hi Fred, According to the "History of Grundy County, 1914", Morris was named in honor of the "Hon. Isaac N. Morris". A quick scan of the material in this book did not produce any additional info regarding Isaac Morris. If I find anything, I will let you know. 2. I am trying to contact [email protected] who posted a query on June, 1,1997, about FEIGEL,CHRISTIAN. When I was looking up archives for Will County, I found this listed. " I'm in hopes that someone might have some suggestions on my research for my great-grandfathers place of death. Christian Feigel was a coal miner, living, and working in Coal City, Ill." She also mentioned she had looked in Grundy County where I know he lived. Other information in the query definately tells me we are from the same genealogy line. If anyone knows of Sheree F. 3. I have just joined this list, and look forward to rounding out the bits and pieces of information that I have found on my G. G. grandparents: ANANIAS WILSON, b March 1830/31 (maybe in Ohio) + Jane Netta (Jannetta) Wooton, b 12 Oct 1831 (place unk) m. 22 Jul 1850, St. Joseph County, IN. I have copy of the Muster Rolls for the Civil War from the Illinois State Archives that shows Ananias Wilson, age 33, joined for service on 27 Dec 1861. residence: Morris, Grundy Co. IL. Under remarks, rather than stating when he was discharged, it states: Died in Hospital (date and place not known). I have, so far, been unable to find this family on a census, either in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan (I am told in the 1800s many people crossed over from Michigan to St. Joseph Co., IN to be married), or in Illinois. Would appreciate if anyone has information or can look up information for me in Grundy Co., IL. I assume Jane Netta and their children were also in Morris. I have been unable to trace any of their children. 3. This really belongs to all counties listed above but I didn't want to spam all of Illinois, so I'm sending it to this list only. Hope nobody minds. >From the "Album of Livingston Co. Biographical Sketches of Prominent & Representative Citizens of the County, Governors of Illinois, Presidents of the U.S." Press of Chapman (no relation) Bros. of Chicago, March 1888, page 1053. Henry Francis, a citizen of Odell, having retired from active farm life, was born in Lewis, Essex Co, N.Y., on the 1st of September, 1823, and is the third child of a family of eight born to Alvin and Betsy (Soper) Francis who were natives of the state of New York. The paternal grandparents were Samuel and Dorcas Francis, who were also New Yourkers, and the former was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The father of Mr. Francis was reared to farm life and served for a short time in the war of 1812. He moved to Erie Co. Pa., in 1832, and engaged in farming. During his life he was an old-line Republican, but not active in politics. He was accidentally killed by a fall from a scaffold in his barn in Erie Co., Pa. The widow survived him nineteen years. Our subject spent his early days on a farm, and his only educational facilities were afforded by the common schools. At the age of Eighteen he entered a chairmaking establishment as an apprentice to that trade, where he remained for about three years, and became a proficient cabinet-maker. He then opened a shop at Girard, Erie Co., Pa., where he continued nine or ten years. In 1844 he was married to Mary J. Pope, the daughter of Ichabod and Almira (Badger) Pope, of Cattaraugus, N.Y. Mrs. Francis was born in New York, but her parents were early settlers of Pennsylvania, and were engaged in farming. Mr. Francis and his wife remained in Girard until 1855, and then went to Sac County, Wis., where they farmed one year. They then moved to La Salle County,Ill., where he operated a rented farm for nine years, and from there went to Braceville, Grundy Co., Ill., where he bought 160 acres of land, on which he lived for eighteen years following, engaged in farming and stock-raising. In March, 1865, Mrs. Francis died. She had become the mother of eight children, all of whom are living--Mary E., Arrace E., Florence V., Perry D., Franklin W., May E., and Nelson G.. Arrace married Lake Francis, a Farmer, and they live in Nebraska; Julia married David Laymon, and is now a widow living near home; Florence married Lucius Coleman, and they live in Gardner; Perry married Emily Smith, and lives in Lane County, Kansas, where he is engaged in farming; May married William H. Ward, and lives near Odell; Mary is at home with her father; Franklin married Miss Mary A. Clark, and resides in Coal City, Grundy Co.; besides carrying on a clothing business, he is a land and insurance agent and Justice of the Peace;. Nelson is farming near home. In 1882 Mr. Francis sold his property in Grundy County and moved to Livingston County, where he bought 210 acres of improved land on section 14, Odell Township. He also purchased seven acres in the suburbs of Odell, on which stands a fine residence occupied by himself and daughter, and a view of which is to be seen in this volume. He is now retired from active business. In Grundy County he served as Assessor, Collector, Road Comissioneer and school Commisioner; in this county he has taken no active part in politics but votes with the Republican party. 2. Deb, Thanks so much for the offer to do look-ups. I am looking for the death record of my ggf, William Lonie. I have looked at the cemetery files at the Morris Library myself but had no luck. But the library was about to close and I may have missed something. I would appreciate it if you were to check it out for me. William was a coal miner who died c. 1904-05. Although he resided in Braceville (at least, he was on the 1900 census), is it possible he died and was buried in Will Co? Would the records then be in Joliet? Are there any specific records regarding the miners at that time? Thanks for your time. Carolyn

    3. Deb, Thanks for offering to check the cemetery listings at the Morris Public Library. I'm especially interested in my gg'grandmother, Temmy (Armstrong) ROGERS. In the History of Grundy County, Illinois - 1882, page 100, her son, Shubael M. ROGERS, who had a hardware in Gardner, stated "Here the mother died, and the father died in California." Shubael M. ROGERS d. 27 Oct 1916 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julius H. WHEELER in Marseilles. He and his wife, Bertha M. (Lucy) POWERS ROGERS are both buried in the Gardner-Braceville Cemetery. His brother Daniel ROGERS also lived in Grundy Co. but I don't have much information on him. My last record of Temmy ROGERS was the 1870 Census so her death was after 1870. She was age 71 at that time. Since the History of Grundy Co was published in 1882, the death was between 1870 and 1882. Any ROGERS information would be appreciated but I'm especially interested in Temmy ROGERS. Thanks in advance. Dorothy

I am so stuck with such a common name and I can't find out very much at all. Do you have access to any census records? My Great Grandfather is John Shadrack BROWN and he married Jane MANSFIELD I am guessing they were married approximately 1859 - 1861 and I am not sure where. Someone looked on marriage registers for the I guess states and couldn't find them. They both were born in England, John - November 25, 1815 and Jane - March 26, 1833. The #1 child Thomas was b. August 28, 1861, Ford County, IL 2 Mary Elvira b. December 07, 1863 Parkston, IL 3 Fanny Mae b. January 18, 1867, Grundy County, IL 4 Elizabeth Belle b. March 16, 1869, Grundy County, IL 5 Charles b. September 20, 1873, Ford County, Illinois Charles is my grandfather on my mothers side of the family. My question is are there any records that indicate where in England they were born. Do you have any records that would show if they were married in either one of the counties? Are there any history books of the area that would mention this family. I am suspicious that this may have been a second marriage for John as there is quite a difference in there ages and there seemed to be a problem of getting along with each and at the time of his death they were living apart. Anything at all you might have on this family would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Mary M. in Arizona, USA researching Brown, Mansfield, Ross at [email protected]
