Just wish it had a map with it. PECK'S GAZETLEER by J.M. Peck 1834 Illinois Presbytery occupies the County of Morgan; Greene and Macoupin and has 10 preachers and 9 churches. There is also a small society of Mormons in Greene CO. Allen's Prairie and settlement in Greene, CO. is 12 mile Northeasterly from Carrolton. Apple Creek rises near the boarder of Sangamon CO. and runs Southwestern course through the southeastern part of Morgan CO into Greene CO. and enters the IL River in Section 36. It has a number of Mills on its waterway. Apple Creek Prairie in Greene, CO lies north of Apple Creek to the left of the road from Carrolton to Jacksonville, IL. It is 10 mile long and from 2 to 4 foot wide. Carrolton has 3 Layers, 3 Physicians, a female seminary, a good english school , a sunday school and Bible class, Presbyterian;Baptist;and Methodist Societies, Union or Reform Baptist and Disciples. At the head of Apple Creek is an extensive Settlement in the Southeastern part of Morgan Co 18 miles from Jacksonville of about 300 families. Hickory Grove is a settlement near a grove of timber in Macoupin Prairie in Greene CO. 12 mile south of Carrolton. Hodges Creek in Greene CO. rises in Pratt's Paririe and runs Southwestery and enters Grand Posse. It is also called Hurricane. It is also called Hodges Fork' This is mostlikey just notes that I had copied and is not all of the information but gives a good idea of what was around in that era in Greene CO. J.M.
