    1. Re: Thompson, Mitchell Illinois
    2. Do you have William's birthplace? I have a family that resided in Greene Co. until about 1850 when they all went to Fannin Co, TX with daughter and son-in-law and their own younger daughters. One daughter married George Thompson in TX (after being widowed) between 1868 and 1870. She appears in TX 1870 census as Abigail Thompson with 4 Morris children, ages 9 to 2. Her maiden name was Chipman and she had 5 sisters. Some never left Greene County when their father and mother did (Elizabeth Chipman Bradford and Nancy Chipman Bacon) and some returned to Greene Co, IL.later. Brother David Chpman returned to the Beard household in Grene Co in 1870 census. Outside chance, but it's worth a shot. William might be old enough to be a grandson- or son of James or Austin Morris Thompson. The Chipman line is descended from Mayflower passengers. Jan

    3. I am chasing the Alexander King Jr. family. He started his family in Greene CO, Kane and Linder Township area.Moved to Fannin County, Texas abt 1852. David Fanning King born Jan 1855 in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas. In 1851 an epidemic (flu?) went through Greene County, Alexander lost two children (Sept 11 & 12, 1851). He was elected to serve as Constable 1852 but never served according to County records.Talked with Historical Society they say about half the county moved to Texas about the same time, so many moved together they started their own town Carrollton Texas ( named after Carrollton, Green CO, IL) in now what is the Fort Worth TX area. Most of the group went to Bonham or Carrollton TX. According too family lore moved back to Greene County for business reasons. Leraning about the Fall 1851 epidemic and the mass move to Fannin help me understand some of my info. Hope this helps.
