There is a way to do this. But you will have to have a CD-RW disk and a cd recorder capable of reading and writing to a CD-RWdisk. When you copy the FTM file to the CD-RW disk, right click on the file name and you should see a menu pop-up, go to the properties section of this menu. You should see some option buttons that show what the file properties are i.e. Read-Only, Hidden, advanced. Uncheck the Read-Only option by placing your mouse cursor over the check mark and left clicking your mouse button. Once again, this will only work if you have copied the file to a CD-RW disk. Doing so allow you to append to the file.
