    1. [ILGREENE] Greene County families-Turney, Fry, English, Hay
    2. We are new to the list as of today. We have several families which spent considerable time in Greene County. James TURNEY, attorney general of ILL and famous lawyer was in Greene co. from 1820-off and on until 1850 when he moved to Texas. His wife is name unknown and we're hoping someone might be able to help us figure it out. My 3rd great-grandfather James TURNEY was born about 1789 in Smith Co., TN Peter TURNEY and Francis Haynes/Haines. This family was very prominent in politics in TN. James left TN and came to the settlements in ILL in 1819-1820. He is listed as an attorney in early records in several counties in the 1820's including Washington co., Randolph Co., Sangamon co., and Greene co. and Schuyler Co. In 1830 he is listed with his wife (unknown name) living in Greene co. He is also described as a famous lawyer in chicago the next year. He was in the Black Hawk and Sax and Fox wars. I have all of his legislative record, and he served as Attorney General of ILL. 1823-1828 among other offices. Unfortunately none of his public record entries mention his wife. Here are the marriages of his daughters= Emily married to Jacob Fry May 25, 1826 in Greene co., Illinois Vol. 1 page 6 lic.#170. -Emily's daughter Sarah married Theodore Hay. English, Lindsey married to Turney, Anabell in Greene co., Ill 12/12/1828 vol 1, page 10 lic. # 300. We need to learn of any records about James Turney with regards to his family and his death. Might anyone have access to any Carrollton/Greene Co. newspapers for about 1864? Or marriage announcements for the daughters or know if there were applications filed at that time for marriages? Or obit for Emily Turney Fry 11 April 1881 died in Carrollton Arabella Turney English died 8 March 1866 in Carrollton Mrs. Turney (Sarah) died 17 Aug. 1837? We don't know anything about youngest daughter Elizabeth Turney Fry and what happened to her. If anyone can help with this family please write at Skysilver2000@charter.net Thanks, Karen
