Dear Ms. Richardson: In reading your response about the Primitive Baptist Church, I was struck with the connection between Maury County, TN and Macoupin County, IL. I have been researching Wilson Whitworth and wife Margaret Edging Whitworth who married in Madison County, IL 1838--both from TN. An Edging/Edgin family and Whitworth families are found in early Maury County, TN, so I've searched for a connection in that county. The couple was censused in Madison County, IL in 1840 with one son. Wilson died in March 1850, and the 1850 census later in June, shows widow Margaret and 5 children. Margaret Edging Whitworth moved to the Carlinville area of Macoupin County sometime after that, where she died in January 1857. Macoupin County Court records indicate her 5 children were placed in various Carlinville homes, where we can find them in 1860 census. There is no record of her burial site. I have been unable to learn what brought Margaret and her family to Carlinville after her husband's death. Do you have information on the surnames of families that were part of this religious group? It is the first time I have seen a connection between these two counties and may have some bearing on Margaret's move to Macoupin County. Margaret died intestate and her estate was negligible.
