    3. Friends, A pastor in Macoupin county informed me, about four years ago, that he thought possibly there were some church records in possession of some people in Roodhouse, who were related to a Mr. Oscar Kemp, who was one of the last members of a church called Union. I wonder if someone would contact me privately if you might be able to help. Robert ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. Dear Mr. Webb If you should find any records for Union Primitive Baptist Church, I would be interested in getting copies. I am the great-grandson of Elder Allen W. Murray. (See below). Thanks, Ed Murray 8724 Teasdale Ave. St. Louis, Missouri 63124 [email protected] Article: Newspaper Obituary The Primitive Baptist Library 416 Main Street Carthage, IL 62321 The Messenger of Peace October 1, 1914 Pages 436-437 ELDER A. W. MURRAY Elder Allen Wakefield Murray was born in Monroe Co., Ill. , Mch. 4, 1821, and departed this life Sept. 6, 1914, at 12:40 a.m. at the home of his son, Elder G. W. Murray, in Winchester, Ill, with whom he had lived for the past nine years. He united with the Primitive Baptist church called Union in Barrow, Ill., seventy-two years ago and was baptized by the late Elder John Record, and remained a faithful member until his death. He had been a minister of the gospel sixty-two years, and had preached extensively in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri, and some in Nebraska, Kansas, Montana and Arkansas. He had spent almost his entire life in Illinois, except a brief residence in De Kalb and Linn Cos., Mo. It is a comfort to us to say that we believe he died in the triumph of the faith he embraced so long ago. He was am earnest believer in the doctrine of salvation by grace, the perseverance of the saints, the resurrection of their bodies and their final glorification with Christ their Savior. Elder Murray was 93 years, 6 months, and 2 days old at the time of his death. The last discourse he preached was at his home church from the text John v. 39 - “Search the scriptures,” etc. The funeral services were held at the home of his son in Winchester, Sept. 7th, conducted by Elders H. S. Peak and Giles Reeder, in the presence of a large congregation. Six of the brethren of his home church carried him to his burial, making great lamentation over him. Interment in the Taylor cemetery, five miles west of Winchester. (written by) G. W. Murray The “Primitive Baptist” and “Primitive Monitor” please copy. (Based on the information given above, Allen Wakefield Murray became a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Barrow, Illinois in 1842, and began to preach at the church in 1852. Taylor Cemetery is in Section 3, Township 14, Range 13 in Scott County, Illinois. It is on private property at this time. At this time, no record of him being in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Montana has been found.)
