    3. My great-grandparents Myrvan King and Mable Walkington were married Feb 1908. The story goes they eloped to Springfield IL, left Athensville the middle of the night by buggy. Was it possible to make it from Athensville to Springfield in one day by horse and buggy? As the crow flies it 36 miles. Kent

    3. Dear Kent, I happened to mention your interesting query to my cousin, whose name is Mabel Walkington of Jacksonville. She laughed and told me that your Mable was her husband Marvin's Aunt. She has heard the story about their elopment also, and having lived in that area since she rode a horse to school, she believes they certainly could have made the trip in one day. She is also a genealogist---have the two of you compared notes? Juli Claussen "My great-grandparents Myrvan King and Mable Walkington were married Feb 1908.
