Jeannie, I think that this list works great as is. Thanks for all of your hard work and cheerful disposition on this list! - Jean Griesan -----Original Message----- From: WordGenius@aol.com [mailto:WordGenius@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 19, 2002 1:06 PM To: ILGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILGREENE] Mail list improvements? FIRST:: Please reply off the list directly to me, Jeannie Smith, <wordgenius@aol.com> Hi, all, When I inherited this mail list there were some options selected in the management files that we might want to change. Majority vote rules - send your replies by next Monday, Nov. 25. As a 19th century politician said, "Vote early and vote often" - just kidding about the often part! 1. Emails sent to the list have a "reply to ILGreene-L" tag on them, which means that most of the time when you reply to a message posted, it will go to the whole list when you meant to just have it go to the person who sent it. (I'm guilty of this when I get busy and forget to look at the reply-to line at the top of the email.). Should I remove this option so that the replies automatically go just to the person who posts the messag? You can always redirect it to the whole list if you choose. 2. Would you like posts to the message board to automatically be forwarded to the ILGreene-L list? There are not that many posts per week on there, and it might offer a valuable resource to the list members. 3. I currently have the Digest list sent twice a day. Is that too often or would once a day be better? Jeannie Smith Co. Coord. for Greene Co. Majority vote rules - send your replies by next Monday, Nov. 25. As a 19th century politician said, "Vote early and vote often" - just kidding about the often part! 1. I prefer having the responses go to the entire list as you never know when some little detail will be most helpful to someone not included in the original exchange of data. Is that too often or would once a day be better? I believe either method works just fine. I like it as it is, but I would also be quite happy with a once-per-day mailing. Jane Kuck Jeannie Smith Co. Questions 1 and 2, YES. Q3, not applicable to me.
Leave it the way it is now, I think. It would help, when members want to say "thanks for the info, or something similar if they would be careful to send it just to person, not to the whole list though. NO on attaching the message board list to this list....I belong to several lists that do that, and almost every one sends the same message to both, so it just doubles everything up. I have a Delia W Davis, b 1810, VA. In censuses her age varies, so the actual birthdate is unknown. Wife of James Allen b. 1813, KY. Two sons, William and John. The 1860 cesus shows additional person in house-- Clarissa Wood. A Clarissa Davis married George Wood earlier and is a widow. I haven't time to look up the marriage date at the moment, but if this has relevance to you, I surely will do so. Delia's middle initial W. has remained curious. She is buried in a different location from these Allens--alongside a John Allen who has a military outfit designated on his tombstone and died earlier. I have also been unable to locate his military unit and the reason why she is buried there, and often appears to be more than 3 years older than her enumeratied "husband". John Allen is a hard name to research in this area!

I have been attempting to find anything at all on the siblings of my great grandfather, Charles E. Briscoe, who was the son of Edward and Mariah (Ferguson) Briscoe of Pike County, IL. Charles was born in 1866, and he had 11 siblings, born between 1854 and 1876. In looking through the Illinois State Death Index (online), which gives deaths from 1916 to 1950, I find four that could be brothers of my great grandfather, and wonder if anyone on this list can provide any more information on these individuals, possibly including their parentage, so I could determine whether they are related to my Briscoes. Following are the individuals I found: Jerry Briscoe (possibly Jeremiah?) d. March 21, 1931 at Roodhouse, Greene Co., IL Thomas Briscoe d. May 10, 1917 at White Hall, Greene Co., IL John J. Briscoe d. April 7, 1945 at White Hall, Green Co., IL Ira Briscoe d. January 12, 1921 at White Hall, Green Co., IL If anyone knows anythings about these people, I'd love to hear from you. The full list of my great grandfather's siblings (from census records, of course) is as follows: William Briscoe, b. abt. 1954 Ira Briscoe, b. abt. 1856 Jeremiah Briscoe, b. abt. 1858 Daniel Briscoe, b. abt. 1860 Isaiah Briscoe, b. abt. 1861 Catherine Briscoe, b. abt. 1864 Uriah Briscoe, b. abt. 1869 Thomas Briscoe, b. abt. 1870 James Briscoe, b. abt. 1872 John J. Briscoe, b. abt. 1874 Mary E. Briscoe, b. abt. 1876 Many thanks again to anyone who can help. A. Utick
My direct Davis in Greene is John Davis b. 1809 in NC, married to Vinecy Morrow. They were in Greene Co. IL from 1834 until 1850, when they moved to Mason Co. IL. Their eldest daughter Mary Amanda Davis married John G. Eveland in Greene Co. IL in 1848. James Davis, husband of Jane Morrow (sister of Vinecy Morrow) was in Greene Co. with his son W. Jackson Davis. Also James Arthur Davis, son of James Davis was in Greene Co. from 1842 until his death in 1861. Also Ransom Davis. Are any of these part of your line? I do not know the William, Robert Arthur, or Leslie Davis whom you mention below. But I do not know anything about my John Davis' siblings, so I can't rule out a possible connection.
