I am new to this list, so didn't know about the Greene County book. If this is a history book of the county, with information about various individuals, I could use a lookup, as I think I had Briscoes in this county. Still awaiting the arrival of some death certificates I ordered from the county, but does anyone here know any thing about any Briscoes who lived there in the late 1800's and early 1900's? Some specific names are: Thomas Briscoe, d. 5/10/1917 at White Hall; Ira Briscoe, d. 1/12/1921 at White Hall; Jerry (probably short for Jeremiah) Briscoe, d. 3/21/1931 at Roodhouse, and John J. Briscoe, d. 4/7/1945 at White Hall. Marty I'll help with Greene Co IL typing. I'm especially interested in the Pruitt families and the allied lines of Hunnicut, Wiatt/Wyatt/Watt and Parr. And what will you be doing with the typed material? Tri-County Newletter or a web site? BTW your Newsletter is great, in fact, I would call it a quarterly. Lots of interesting material in it and it looks good. Mary Ann At 08:15 PM 12/4/2002 -0600, you wrote: >Are we working on a time schedule? If so, what kind? There is a fix for the 'ole' I had the same problem with the family tree maker everytime I used it. I got tired of reinstalling it because the language would change. I contacted them, and I don't know the correct terminology, but they led me through the process of changing the regional settings screen to come up everytime I turn the computer on. All you do then is click out of screen, but it has stopped the problems totally with the OLE message. Chris
I have FTM v.9 that acts up periodically and all i do is installl disc again and it seems to quit until something else pops up, and then run disc install again . I have 2 other programs that i use for backing up each other to work on data and download GEDCOM,s. Family Origin is one. The other is a free database program from LDS. If one conks out ,go to another, all of your data is safe. joe dial godfrey,IL. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SellanaBelle@aol.com> To: <ILGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 02, 2002 10:13 AM Subject: Re: [ILGREENE] Family Tree Maker > Thanks Bobbi! Thanks Bobbi! To answer your question, I haven't done what you are writing about. It's a little confusing to me. Maybe I will try one of these times. Thanks again. Nancy
Nancy, Did you get your problem solved. I haven't been on the computer in a few days and only saw your message this morning. I have had this problem in the past. Although I have to admit I haven't had it pop up for over a year now. It seemed like every time I upgraded the FTM to a newer version I would get this message. I did just what rmiller suggested. I know it sounds like a pain but after you've done it a few times you get the hang of it. I never could figure out why it was popping up because my settings were set on "English" so to make it work I picked another "English" setting rebooted went back and reset it to the original "English" setting rebooted again and everything worked great. OLE stands for Object Linking and Embedding and has to do with the scrapbook portion of the program. Currently I'm working with version 8.0. I'm looking at the 7.0 users manual. The OLE information is listed on pages 191-203. This may help you or not. Marty there are several forms of this. "Those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it." "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" "Those who don't know history are condemned to repeat it." "There is an old adage spoken by an even older man that says "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it," George Santayana, 1863-1952." Speech writers have use some form of this quote for a great many years. William Shakespeare used it. Will Rogers used it. Winston Churchill used it. If you want to check futher try http://www.startingpage.com/html/quotations.html or http://www.dogpile.com/index.gsp dogpile.com is a good all purpose search engine. Richard... The quote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" was made by George Santayana (1863-1952) a Spanish-born poet and philosopher. Dave
I think it's "Those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it." There's probably some source on the internet for famous quotes where you could check it. I want to quote someone in a newsletter project but I can not think of the exact quote or who exactly said it. So I thought you folks could help. The quote goes something like this: "if we don't remember the past, we are doomed to repeat it." Please help. Thanks Marty
I wonder if anyone might have any information on Elias O. Brown that married Celia Gilmore in 1845 in Greene Co., IL. I have their marriage license. The marriage license has a note that the Brown's gave their consent for Elias to marry. What age did the males have to be to marry without consent? They had two boys, Henry br. abt 1846 and Francis (Wm) br. abt 1848. Celia and the children are on the 1850 census alone, without Elias. I cannot find him in any census, nor in any of the cemetery records on the internet. If anyone has any info on him I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Chris
