For those who are interested, this person is getting death certificates in Dec/January for people for $4.50 I think. http://www.rootdig.com/illinoisdeathcertificates.html Kevin --- WordGenius@aol.com wrote: > I believe Illinois has now suspended the free death > certificates due to lack > of resources and huge demand. 2. That page no longer exists. They stopped sending out free death certificates. The only way to get them now is to go to the archives in Springfield. Allen

The page still works http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/idphdeathindex.html You can still look up your ancestor and narrow the search but to get the death cert now you must pay. 1. [ILGREENE] Re: Free Death Certs.
    2. I believe Illinois has now suspended the free death certificates due to lack of resources and huge demand. That's why the $10 fee for the genealogical non-certified ones. Somewhere I just read that for the before-1916 ones at the county courthouse, you can search yourself, but the clerks no longer have time to do searches for you. I don't know what fee, if any, is charged for copies. Jeannie Smith Co. Coord for Greene Co. IL, on ILGenWeb

    1. [ILGREENE] Re: Death Index/Certificates
    2. Here is the link for info on getting death certs: http://www.idph.state.il.us/vital/forms/deathhow.htm That's the official IL Dept. of Pub. Health site. There is a $10 fee for genealogical non-certified copies (death must be over 20 years ago) and a $19 fee for certified copies. The site has a request form you can print out and mail. Deaths before 1916 will be at the County Courthouse, probably, or at the IRAD in Springfield IL. Here's the link for the 1916-1950 Death Index: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/idphdea thsrch.html This is the same website you should get when you click the "DEATHS" link off of our new (today) web page. Hope this helps. Jeannie Smith http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgreene/green.htm

    3. Hi, I', Kathy. We have done a lot of research in Greene Co, Ill. You will find ledger books at the county court house in Carrollton, Ill. There are newspapers in White Hall and in Carrollton which did mention marriages. Both White Hall and Carrollton libraries have old newspaper tapes and readers. You can find addresses and phone numbers in the Greene County web pages for Ill. Springfield, the capital has the archieves and does inter library loans of tapes. Have your library contact the Springfield archieves and they can get a catalog of what they have to offer. Your library may already have the catalog. Hope this helps. 1. [ILGREENE] Book Information
    2. The information that is in the 1818 - Illinois - 1968 only talks about who the mayors were, the different stores and buildings during those years. In the Color Me Greene book it just talks about the history of Greene county. As far as looking up information it is very limited. Anna
