This is it. I am first obligated to the Societies from which I received the articles. This is cut and dry. They get the finished work first. Then it is published in the newsletter for their members. Then it will be made available to the websites. I've had two people who disagree with this and they think the transcripted materials should be posted to the websites for ILJersey and ILGreene first. This is fine and I respect their views. 2. Marty Crull
    3. Just to keep you , "typing volunteers" exactly what I have accumulated since 1993, I thought I give a small breakdown. This way you will be more in the know of what I have and why I need the help. 1. Ben Kings 5 1/4 diskettes from his 10 years of research: Some to a cousin in Alton, IL; some to a cousin in Lawton, OK; some stored at the Greene county museum; some her at the house. All these have to be reformatted to cd or 3 1/2 diskettes and adapted to a current program. They were all DOS operated disks. 2. At least 8 large boxes of hand written scraps of papers from newspapers (some photocopied - but you could imagine how much that would have cost me). 3 each here at the house right now, 3 hidden in the bowels of the Jersey County Historical Society; 2 hidden near Hillview at a friends house. 3. 3 large boxes of veteran clippings and handscrap copies. (All of the above to be scanned and emailed or postage sent as well) 4. Lastly, two file cabinets here at the house full, I mean full, of family and other information from projects that I am currently working on. 10 years worth of information about Jersey, Greene and Calhoun Counties. Now you know what I mean, when I put out the word, "I need typing volunteers". Thanks for letting me explain. Marty

I would be glad to do some transcription over the winter (stuck indoors) if someone could scan the material into a jpg file to send me--similar to what Marty Crull has his volunteer transcriptionists doing. 2. Marty Crull
    3. MJ Bradley asked a question and I thought I'd clear the air about all this typing being done for Greene County. It is not meant to offend anyone but puts the facts out there to help folks make up their minds about helping me. ......... In time of course! They've been in a box since 1993 when I took the time to read and write them down from the old newspapers and family files. No one else, except Jean Wooldridge, seemed to be interested in helping gather them, as I asked for help back then as well. May I ask, are you a paid member of the historical society? These folks will be the first to receive the articles, since they are the ones who funded the Society where these records are located, and this is as it should be. Once they receive the finished projects, then and only then will they be posted as "free" for those who are not members. I Hope I have explained this well enough without offending you. But these folks are responsible for purchasing the file cabinets, the building, the electricity, the heat and the volunteers who cut and past each scrape article that comes thru the museum and makes it available to folks like me who do this for all who come after us. Again, yes they will be posted but at a later time. May be as much as six months from now, since I still have hundreds of articles that need to be typed. This is a fact for Jersey and Calhoun Counties as well. I've been at it a long time. I became "in a hurry" after these last heart attacks and decided that all this'd work will go back into the museum, again, to sit, until someone else decides to volunteer to do what we are doing. Thanks and again, I mean no disrespect or in any way to offend anyone. 3. Hi, all, The Illinois State Archives suspended sending out free death certificates for all orders received after 15 Nov 2002. They will continue to fill the orders received prior to that date (as of 19 Nov 2002, they were 19,000 request behind). The only way certificates can be obtained now from the Illinois State Archives is to go there in person. The non-certified copies that cost $10.00 can be obtained from the Illinois Department of Public Health, not the State Archives. Each county also has its own rules/fees for sending out copies of these certificates. If anyone is interested in having me get death certificates for 1916 through 1947 from the Illinois State Archives, I will be going there next week. You can e-mail me at rottmann@hotmail.com for more information or to let me know what certificates you are looking for. 3. For all of you who are helping, I can not express how I appreciate the effort. There are only about 50 to 60 more pages left in this box and then I won't bother you anymore till after the holidays. There are actually well over 300 pages left in the box but I just chose these for now. I've been collecting these since 1993 shortly after Ben King died. Some are just one or two sentences but most are well written articles about Greene County. Jean Wooldridge and I spent a few days a few years back cleaning up the family files at the historical society, this is where the majority of the articles came from. AgainThanks Marty
