How does one obtain a divorce record for Greene County? My ancestor's brother, Joseph Blackshaw 1831 married Rebecca Dayball 1828/1829 on 4 Mar 1854 in St. Louis, lived for a time in Montgomery Co., Mo, then moved to Berdan with others from his family. His sister, Hannah 1839, married George Sleight 1836, who owned a general store and ran the post office there. Joseph assisted with both store and post office. His other sister, Elizabeth Frances 1837, married William Waring 1825, and also lived first in Berdan and then near Palmyra in Macoupin Co. All three families moved over from Montgomery Co., MO. Back to Joseph (nicknamed One-Arm Joe). In 1873 he married Mary Meredith Strain and had an additional four children. We who research together on this line had thought that Rebecca had died before then, but she listed on the 1870 and 1880 St. Louis censuses with her children and in the 1890 St. Louis directory. Two of her children attended the nearby school for the deaf in Fulton, Callaway, Missouri. So I am seeking a divorce record. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jerry in Idaho
I am seeking information that ties into my War(e)ing line. Michael H. Waltrip circa 1852 of Berdan, married Marie (Mariah) War(e)ing 25 Aug 1854 from Missouri, on 10 Oct 1893. According to the 1880 census, they had three children: Eva circa 1874, Reno circa 1876, and Catharine circa 1878. There may be more children. Michael H. Waltrip is the son of Michael Waltrip 29 Mar 1810 of Breckinridge, KY, died Greene Co., IL, and Alcey Heater b. 6 May 1817, Ohio, died Greene Co., IL. Their children were Mary C. 1836, Marth aAnn 1839, Matilda 1842, Fanny (prob. Frances) 1844, and Michael H., 1852. I visited Hickory Grove cemetery (I hope I'm remembering the correct name) a couple of years ago and saw a grave for a Michael H. Waltrip and another wife. I don't know if they are one and the same or not. Marie War(e)ing was the daughter of William Waring and Elizabeth Frances Blackshaw, my 3rd great grandparents. Elizabeth is buried in that cemetery with four of her children who died young. If anyone has additional information on these families, I would appreciate knowing. Marie was "left behind" when William and the younger children moved west about 1880. Thanks! Jerry in Idaho
A few months ago in the Carrollton paper was a death notice for a Boirum woman. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. (Obit etc.) Thanks, Nita Boirum in Arizona
The website that Debbi Geer referred to can be seen at http://www.floridahistory.info/petition/ It is a A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE STATE LIBRARY OF FLORIDA, THE DIVISION OF HISTORIC RESOURCES AND THE MUSEUM OF FLORIDA HISTORY, which is an important library for family researchers. I encourage any of you to sign the petition, even if you do not live in Florida, nor have any connection to Florida. Here in Florida, our governor is proposing to close the state library. If this is allowed to happen, other states might follow, to save money. We are hoping that when the governor sees the outcry of family historians, he will think twice, and other states will see that this is not an action they can follow in their state without outcry. Marty, Thanks for the info - do you know if it is compatible with Windows 98? God Bless! Nancy
Thanks! God Bless!
There is a way to do this. But you will have to have a CD-RW disk and a cd recorder capable of reading and writing to a CD-RWdisk. When you copy the FTM file to the CD-RW disk, right click on the file name and you should see a menu pop-up, go to the properties section of this menu. You should see some option buttons that show what the file properties are i.e. Read-Only, Hidden, advanced. Uncheck the Read-Only option by placing your mouse cursor over the check mark and left clicking your mouse button. Once again, this will only work if you have copied the file to a CD-RW disk. Doing so allow you to append to the file. Yes the Illinois Archives are in Springfield, they are located down by the Capital. I can't remember the exact address though. Thanks to everyone who sent me an email on SAB. I am working on it. God Bless! Nancy
Marty, I am using FTM 7.0. Thanks, Nancy
Are the Illinois Archives in Springfield? If so, what is the address? Thanks, Nancy
Debbi, Most of us who walk in to the Archives do the research ourselves. We do not take any time away from the Staff members except for the time it takes them to collect our money for the copies and write out the receipt. Marty, I have version 10. I backup my family files on CDs. If I lost my hard drive, how could I place all that information onto a new or renovated computer? As it is now, they are "Read Only" files on the CDs. Thanks for your help Lorene Vanzant Lorlauvan@aol.com
I just now had to reinstall my family treemaker. What I did was start a new My Family File (just as if you are just starting the program for the first time) and then I imported my family files from the files I copied from another computer. Anna
You can always save to floppies as well, these are workable. You will just have a lot more floppies than you would CD's. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Mabery" <kim@mabery.com> To: <ILGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [ILGREENE] Family Tree Maker Question > There is a way to do this. At the Illinois State Archives in Springfield, the people that work there do not find the record for you. You, yourself hunt for the information. All they do is show you where the books are, and how to read it. They even have a computer for you to look on their site for the death date, etc. if you did not bring it with you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debbi Geer" <dgirth@yahoo.com> To: <ILGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [ILGREENE] Illinois Bill > I tend to agree with MJ Bradley as to the cost for the > upcoming bill by Rep Gary Hannig. > > However, it seems to me that those who walk in should > pay more because the person has to drop what they are > doing and find the record.
