Good morning Jan. I found one entry, a marriage. Entry is exactly as follows: Jan. 21, 1854, Marbletown, Stephen Coons to Mary J. Silkworth, by Rev. N.H. Bangs. I hope it is a new find for you......................Dann

Try this website. I would like to get in touch with Coy Hedgecock or someone who could send me a listing of the graves in Hermitage Cemetery, located in Greene County, Illinois. My great great grandfather, James H. Crouch, d. 17 Feb 1863 in Illinois. According to list I received from the internet, James H. Crouch is buried in Hermitage Cemetery, Rubicon Township, Greene County, Illinois. I need a printed or published record of the grave and/or list of grave with his name, dates, etc., plus a title page (if list has been published), or possibly a letter from the cemetery caretaker. This information is for "proof of death" for my application to the DAR. Thank you so much for any help. Ann Marie Gelven Rogers, P. O. Box 142, Lansing, KS 66043
how can we get this site back? Hello again, Many thanks to everyone who responded about obtaining divorce papers for Joseph Blackshaw and Rebecca Dayball/Daybell. Prior to marrying Joseph Blackshaw in 1873, Mary Meredith Strain (18 Apr 1843, Indiana) was evidently married twice. The 1880 census shows Joseph with two step-children: S. T. Wiley 1863, Missouri, and Laura Taylor 1869, Missouri. Does anyone have any information about these two children and their fathers? Thanks, Jerry in Idaho

The JCHS website is no more.
Thought I'd weigh in myself on this subject. I've only been to the IL State Archives a few times, the last time a few years ago, and have also been to the MI State Library. Anyone who hasn't been there doesn't realize how many people go through those doors every day. Most do their own research, but many times I've had to wait in line to ask a simple question because the staffers are so busy. I think it's very reasonable to charge for research the staffers have to do. There are too many of us and far too few of them. After all, if I had to hire a private researcher I would have to pay far more. Also a word for the county clerks: All the small town clerks I've had dealings with have been very kind and let me have my way with their land records, early marriage books, etc. The Pike Co. one did request that we not visit on Mondays, since that was their busy day for regular county court business. I hope they have installed a copy machine for genealogists to use since I was there. I'm sure I was in their way while I was copying reams of probate papers on their copier, but they were very gracious about it. Any way, these record keepers are way understaffed for the extra, unanticipated growth in the pursuit of genealogy in the last 5 years, so let's give them all a cheer for the help they do give us. Sorry about the previous message. I sometimes get a little slap happy and hit the send button rather than the back button. My apologies to this list.
