    2. I have been "eavesdroping" on your dialogue. All these names appear within my mystery family--which shouldn't be a mystery, for theyre great grands and we should be able to catch up with them better than those farther back. However, the Davis, Allen names are woven in a web that I can't get through. You have recently mentioned Thompson. My William Allen who married Eveline Hall in 1861 was the son of Delia (Delilah?) W. Davis Allen and James Allen. His full name was William Thompson Allen. All his records have the middle initial "T". If his mother was a Davis, she might have liked to add the family name, Thompson. Somewhere, somehow, these people have some thread of familiarity. Do you pick up on any of this?

    2. Dear Tom, Thanks so much for the information about my gganbdfather's bio on the Greene County site. I was finally able to access and print it out for my records. I have used the Greene County site extensivey since all of my family is from that area. When I have time during Christmas vacation, I'm going to sit down and see if any more of my greats are in the "Biography". What a joy to find information that even my mom fdidn't know. I was interested to note in the Wm. H. Davis section that he married a daughter of Israel Thompson. He has been one of my brick walls; so, I'm looking forward to having time to persue that clue. Again, many thanks and God bless. Suzanne Cade Crawford

    2. JON WILLAND
    3. Dear Suzanne, I was pleased to see the bio on Arthur Davis from the Greene Co. biography site, as you were. I think that Arthur's father, James Davis, is a common ancestor to us both. I have very strong feelings that this James Davis was related to my John Davis (b. 1809 in NC), maybe an uncle or cousin. If true, this could make my John Davis a possible cousin to your Arthur. I believe that my John Davis had land near to James Davis Sr. in Greene Co. This James Davis (b. 1780 and married to Jane Morrow) (whom I think was also called James Davis Sr.) is a brick wall for me. Eventually I may ask a Rowan Co. NC researcher to check this out, but I'm trying to put together more facts before hiring someone. I think that the James Davis (James Davis Jr.) who married Elizabeth Morrow was either a brother or cousin to James Davis Sr. I wonder if the name of the father of James Davis. Sr. might have been Arthur also. The name Arthur certainly shows up in the family a lot, including my direct Davis line. I hope you'll keep me in mind if you learn anything more about James Davis Sr. I will do the same for you. Sincerely, Lois Willand

    2. My maternal ggrandfather is Arthur Davis who married a Priscilla Rawlins (?-1/8/1861) on 8/30/1853 in Greene County ( I looked on 1879 bios in greene county and found their marriage listed as being on page 587; unfortunately, I've not been able to persue it further). I have his birth as 12/1817 in Rowan County, N.C., being the son of James Davis (1780 N.C.-8/18/1858) and Jane Morrow(1770-11/18/1855). Their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (no information) married my grandfather, Wm. E. Thompson on 3/15/1876 in Greene County (date approximate). They had four or five sons and my grandmother, Emma Zetta Thompson (4/21/1880-12/27/1956). She married Robert F. 1. Re: Davis-Morrow research Greene Co.
    2. Well, I'm not sure Eveline was unmarried when she appeared in the Allen-Davis household. Clarissa Wood was married--maiden name Davis. Maybe they were all related to Delia W. Davis. These are all "stretches" I know, but conventional searching has not produced answers of ANY kind, so I have to be faced with looking at the allied names--Allen, Davis and Wood. There's an awful lot of documentation about Halls, and a qualified researcher who has extensive info about Halls can find no Eveline born to a Hall. Of course we can't find one married to a Hall, either, but the marriage might not have been in Greene County. --perhaps NC--Eveline was born there. I have a picture of Eveline Hall probably taken 1880ish--she was a very attractive mature woman, with very large, kindly eyes. Since she's my husband's gr-grandm, I sure would like to know more about her. I just appreciate having you keep me in the loop--for it's touching on areas with many similarities. Maybe where there's smoke, there's fire. Hope springs eternal........... Do you have the Chipmans all the way back? The female lines are generally hard to trace, but Acenith Chipman is a Mayflower descendant--and those directly descended from her can also be members of the Mayflower Society. Since it's my husband's family, he and my children are members now. It was quite a thrill to make THAT discovery I can guarantee. Jan
