Did he have a daughter Mahalia (misspelled). The hole batch of them is in one of the census provided on line in the Greene Co. site. Thanks Dolores
Robert, Betty, and others, I have been following the discussion of the Primitive Baptist Church and Elders John Record and Elder Caudle with interest. I'm not sure how this may fit, but my ancestor, b. 1819 in TN and settled just SW of Scottville was named John Record Arnold. Also, his dau. Avia Arnold was married in 1870 to Noah Edwards in Macoupin Co. by "J.C. Caudle, Minister of the Gospel"; his son William Arnold was married in 1866 by Elder J. C. Caudle, at the Elders' home. Kathy, If I can remember James had a daughter named Mahalia (misspelled), she had her child out of wedlock. Which would be Grant Tucker. I haven't worked on the Tucker's as that is not my direct line....I still have not got all my direct lines hooked together.....so I didn't want to tangle myself with outlines unless they will help me figure out my direct lines..... I know the child from my great great Aunt Electa and Grant Tucker- Joel Grant Tucker inherited a lot of property in the Jersey Co. Area. But what happened to Joel Grant I don't know. He was living with Grandfather Joel and Grandmother Elizabeth as Electa remarried. And then with Uncle Joel in the early part of the 1900's. Hope this helps you and if you have something for me please give me a shout. God Bless Dolores
Does anyone know the names of the two cemeteries that is south and west of Rockbridge ? Janice M. West IN.
I have a James Brown Tucker in my family. He was born in 1832 in Ill. and died in 1905. Is this a relation? Thanks to all who replied to my FEARS, OSBORNE, Richwood Cemetery inquiry. I still haven't found James FEARS, wife Catherine or daughter Nancy OSBORNE, but it's not for lack of help from my fellow listers. Janice Pearson Ann Arbor, MI
Betty - know you are on vacation, but afraid I will forget to send this. I am searching a Caudle family that I lost. Naomi Smith was first married to a Weddle, who died. Her second husband was Thomas Caudle. Thomas Caudle (born about 1830) married first Margaret. Their children were Mary (1850), William (1852), Sarah (1854) and Pleasant (1857). He then married Naomi Smith and they had the following: Noah(1869), Berkely (1872), Joseph (1873), Rosetta (1876) and Isabella (1876) All days of birth are approximate, based on census records. During this time they were residents of Wayne Co. Illinois. Thomas either died or they were divorced and Naomi moved onto Idaho with one of her daughters from a first marriage. I don't know if she took any of her Caudle children with her or what, but am trying to work on this line of the Smiths. I have the Smith line back to 1600s but have been trying to bring the children of Amos and Marium Smith up to the 1900s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have not found anything about Elizabeth Scroggins but hopefully there is someone out there checking this email researching her family. Where are you? I may get a clue to find the Vaughns. If she is the same Elizabeth as the one in the Pike Co census of 1850, she would have been born about 1812. The children listed in that census are: Martha 15, John P. 10, Wm. M. 6, and Elizabeth 2. A cousin tried to find where she and John were buried, when he was visiting Pike Co, but found nothing. I thought maybe the couple could have been buried in Greene Co. John P. Jr and his wife are bureid in Pike Co. I would like to thank everybody for their Boirun Cem. info. Ben
Sorry forgot to mention my Great great grandmother was Mary Jane Scroggins who married Daniel Stone. In the Illinois marriage records they have Daniel's name spelt wrong. Teresa
Was wondering if you know if Elizabeth Scroggins had any sisters and what their names may have been. Teresa
Ben, Haven't heard from you for a while. Just wondered if you had acquired any new info on our Boirums? Bill and I have finally finished our Mission for the Church so maybe we can do some research again. In fact I would like to make a trip to SLC. Preferable after the snow season is over and before summer. Also have plans for a trip to Illinois sometime this summer. Tell me again where you live. We have a daughter in South Carolina, so we have crossed Texas several times using I 10 or I 20. Take care and looking forward to hearing from you. Nita and Bill Boirum
Patricia, I'm not sure if the Scroggins & Vaughn couple who married in 1831 is my correct line. A cousin did get a copy of the marriage contract showing a Robert A. or H. and Nancy J. Scroggins ok'ing the marriage of Elizabeth in Greene Co. on Oct. 19, 1831. I also found a Robert Scroggins purchased land in Greene Co. in 1839. That's all I have on the Scroggins. Sorry. Have you run into a Pertima Vaughn Richardson b. april 10, 1837 dau. of Benjamin F. Vaughn and Martha Clayton? She had a half brother Reverend William E. Vaughn of Carlinville, Illinois and five half sisters...I have never tracked this Vaughn Family Down...so I don't have info on your John P. and Elizabeth...but wonder if our lines might connect somewhere...betty . I 'm searching info about John Vaughn who was shown to have married Elizabeth Scroggins in Greene Co on October 20, 1831. I found John P & Elizabeth Vaughn ( my gggrandparents) in the 1850 census for Pike Co. and would like to determine if they were the couple who married in 1831. John P. was to have been born in Va. and Elizabeth in Ky. One of their sons-also John P.-was found in the Pike Co census for 1880 in the Springcreek Twp. A distant cousin & I are at a dead-end with the elder Vaughns and would like to learn in which counties they were born and their parents' name. Thanks.
Penny, The 21 years difference in age for Mary and John Emmens made me wonder if the match was correct. Such a difference really wasn't too uncommon at the time, especially in second marriages but always catches my eye. William Thaxton was a 1st cousin 5 t removed. From the 1880 census I got a dau Lula, is this the Lusetta that you mentioned? And is this just another example of enummerator error? I know what you mean about the various spellings even within the same document, one of my lines is Kesinger and all 33 different spellings of that name. Tom.
No these names are not familiar except i believe somebody asked me about them once before... Emmons does not seem like it would be a common name...but I can not connect some of my Emmons people with some other Emmons folks in and around Greene co....I think they are related to Bobby Dalton who researches an Emmons line. Bobby is quite a genealogist...He was my father's foreman years ago...He has belonged to the Morgan Co. Genealogical society for eons and he did cemetery readings from many morgan and greene co. cemeteries...he does not have e-mail...i could furnish you a snail mail address for him.
